It makes the FS2000 feel thin, trim, and lithe.   It is like they designed a gun solely for the purpose of being used in movies.

I messed with the .22 version they had at the NRA convention this year and was quite impressed by everything except for the sights. Holy moley were those babies high up there. I couldn't get a decent check weld at all due to how high they were above the axis of the stock. I wouldn't buy one for that reason alone.

If I had to get anything other than an AR from what they had at the convention, I would get a Tavor for .223 and the SCAR 17 was tops in .308 for my money.

It's still uglier than sin.

I believe the final civilian production 5.56 will have just rails for attachment of aftermarket sights.

Beretta is definitely improving it before full release. The one shown on M4C net has quite a few changes.

Yea it does. One can only hope our military chooses it for the next infantry rifle.

Now where can i reserve my number 0001 serial number?

Any idea if they will have a rifle length handguard version or conversion. People with long arms need some love too

Don't actually expect a large manufacturer to be up with the times do you.  Even the SCAR, "designed for operators" doesn't get that right.

My understanding is the .22lr version can be imported, however, in other calibers it would have to be built in the US.  Is that right?
Link Posted: 6/22/2012 10:32:14 PM EDT
[#14]
Kind of. They can either build it here with fewer than 10 foreign parts (importing some parts from Italy might save some money, at least initialy) OR they can build them in Italy in a sporting configuration, then import them and Beretta USA can add the evil features with enough US parts to be compliant (like FN does with their SCAR).

sexiest gun ever - IMO

Some badass features - quick-change barel and cocking/ejection switch are awesome.

Will buy.  Fuck yeah.

I'd give up the quick change barrel for sub MOA accuracy as well as a slimmer fore-end... but that's just me.

I dig it just wish it came with a gas setting for suppression rather than having to buy a whole other barrel for suppression fire. I hope that they back it with different length barrels or the whole quick change will be kind of pointless.

Firearms using powder, primer, projectile and shell have hit their evolutionary zenith. Very little has changed in the last 50 years other than small technical details. So saying that any rifle is really better than the other is almost rediculous. The only real choices are down to what a particular government entity sees as important and cost effective, usually what is cost effective wins out. I do not see the US military changing to any other rifle on a large scale in the near future. They will always run trial and tests to see what the latest technology and advancements have to offer. But, they will not get approval from Congress to fund a completely new rifle any time soon.

All hype as usual. Just like the FS2000, PS90, ACR..... I held off buying them and kept with the M4/AR (DI/GP). I'll wait to see what others find wrong with it or if they make newer generations because of some flaw that needs to be fixed. However, if MSRP is 1500 or less I may buy it sooner than later but will still wait for others to spend the money.  If its more I'll sit back and play with others while waiting to hear the range reports. Most likely a quality AR will still be best.

seems bulky and the more moving small parts make me think it will fail over time....I'll stick with a quality M4

#1, who cares what it looks like as long as it is ergonomic and shoots.

#2, once you see it in person and handle it, its not a problem.  Its hardly larger than an M4, just with rounded corners. Promotional photos with 10" barrels don't give you a good sense of overall rifle proportions.  It's really quite a nice handling rifle.

#1) Looking good is a nice option, but it looks like the proportions are way off, ergo not ergonomic, which leads me to: #2) I've never held one, so the pictures do not give a good appreciation of the dimensions and how well it feels. I'll take your word for it.

While I am delighted at all the options we civilian customers are getting, I can't see an appreciable gain over an XCR, SCAR, etc...

All things being equal, I'd much rather get my customer service from BUSA than Alex Robinson.

SCAR loses on price, again, all things being equal.

Charging handle not being in a horrible orientation to the shooter is kind of huge. Probably way less lube, mag, cleaning  routine/ environment sensitive (like many guns these days). All huge advantages.

less lube and enviromental sensitivites are a myth, less lube equils siezed pistons and heavy objects, as for enviromental, most piston guns still have not figured it out.

I've experienced it first hand. The DI guns just don't go as long without a FTF. Plus some mags that I had labeled as bad since they were poor performers in the AR platform were flawless in other platforms. The AR is light, has huge aftermarket support but is far from the best platform available these days. But then again, why should it be? It is a legacy platform developed decades ago.

You do realize pistons are older than DI by a decent amount, right?  Further so long as you keep most decent quality ARs lubed then your GTG.

You do realize the new platforms have been developed using pistons right?

Also, thereis that it's GTG 'so long as' disclaimer. There are now more reliable platforms that don't requirethe disclaimers.
