So today was the first day I have been able to shoot my G17 that I picked up a couple weeks ago and ran into some issues. For the most part it shot just fine and I seem to be able to get on target faster with more accuracy than my Beretta 92FS that this replaced. I think the issues are with the extractor but wanted to check with you guys first. I would get hit with the brass on several occasions and it stovepiped once. I looked at the casings and noticed that on one side there all black and "sooty" and on the other side there's a wierd mark on the case. It's also slightly dented the brass where the mark is. This is a used 3rd gen and I was shooting Federal 115gr and some Speer 124gr +P golddots.

Here's a pic of the cases

I think you're seeing the effect of the +P's.
I recently shot some very hot hollowpoints in my G21 and the ejection was noticeably more vigorous and pretty much straight up.
Nothing like the 230 grain standard loads I usually shoot at the range.

The pics are of the Federal. The golddots have the same markings but I also didn't shoot a whole lot of them. I shot prob 100 rounds of the Federal and got hit with 10 of them and 1 stovepipe. My girlfriend shot some aswell and got hit a couple times. She even has a little circle burn mark on her bewbie where it hit her

*Edit* No pic of said bewbie, lol

In my experiences, Glock 9mm's have often seemed to eject rather erratically in most folks' opinions...I guess this is partly due to the slight "bend" in the ejector which doesn't appear in .40/.357 Glocks.  My armorer's' manual does cite a broken or damaged ejector as one possible cause of erratic ejection and stovepipes(along with being diry and limp-wristing).  If it is a dmaged ejector, you're not looking at but about 20 bucks to change out the trigger mechanism housing.

brass is normal- these are not match pistols- they pull the brass out and get rid of it- dents on cases are of no consequence. The soot on the fed cvases are from light loads not fully sealing in the chamber again no big deal.
Getting hit with brass- wear shooting glasses wear a hat ignore it. It MIGHT be a sign of a problem in an older gun with worn out springs if it is CONSISTENT
in a new gun I'd break it in a little more before calling it a problem

There ain't nothing wrong with your Glock unless it's hitting you with the spent shells all the time.  Brass looks normal to.

Take a look at the head stamp of your casings, the mark made by the ejector is VERY close to the primer. That's what's causing the erratic ejection. Other people have modified the ejector to shorten it, thereby bringing the tip further to the left because the ejector is naturally bent to the right, and giving the face of the tip of the ejector a different profile, and a few people have even bent their ejectors to be more straight than factory, and that has fixed their ejection and scraped brass problems. If you want to try to fix it, buy a separate trigger housing w/ ejector and modify the spare part, then drop it into the gun and test it at the range. DON'T bend the ejector while the trigger housing is still in the frame, and DON'T bend the ejector further to the right when viewed from above. Bending the ejector further to the right risks it hitting the primer of a live round being ejected.

My Gen3 G27 is doing the same thing, I'm going to bend a spare ejector slightly to the left and reprofile the face of the tip of the ejector just like JBarbaresi has done in one of the above links.

Thanks alot for the links Voyager
Can't believe the rest of you think its normal for the shooter to keep getting hit with the brass I've never been hit with my own brass from ANY other gun except this Glock 17. Not even a buddies 19 and 27.

In this newest post, RobG shortened his ejector from 14.75mm to 14.00mm and it's still working fine for him, so it seems that between 14mm and 14.75mm is the sweet spot.

That length, 14.75mm to 14.00mm, is of the larger portion of the ejector with the number marking on it, from the rear of that portion to the tip.

Boy you sure are getting pressure signs on those rounds. The buldging of the primer around where the firing pin hits is signs of high pressure.

Every Glock primer strike I've ever seen looked like that.
