I have being thinking on put one of the rubber recoil buffer things on my SKS but I have read some mixed reviews on it, some people say that after the installation their SKS tend to have problems ejecting, some others mention that the buffer end up getting destroyed and the parts could get stock on the internals and a few more reviews talking on how smooth the recoil and soft the cycling got after the installation.

I feel strongly pointed to let it be on the way the mechanics where design and just put one of that recoild padds at the end of the stock just to make it easy on the shoulder when shooting on hot days with light shirts... but if the buffer helps my SKS I will not mind buying one.

The worst type imho is the one that fits in the topcover. When struck it will transfer the energy to the takedown pin. The H style ones that fit in the rear of the receiver and put a thin covering of rubber where the carrier might contact occasionally seem sensible.

I did not have any problems with functioning with the H style. What did happen is that is cracked and started to fall apart after a few hundred rounds. I took it out before it disintegrated and wedged itself in other components.

I didn't notice any decrease in recoil using a buffer with the SKS. I've actually noticed an increase in perceived recoil using one in a Galil (that buffer is falling apart too).

Don't waste your money.

It sounds like any improvement on performance it's minimal with the recoil buffer...

You can get INCREASED recoil with an AK if its being hit by the carrier on every rearward run.
Those things dont really decrease recoil or improve performance, it's to stop the carrier in the sks from slamming into steel on the rear of the receiver and peening

Get a new main spring for your SKS. The carrier shouldn't hit the rear receiver anymore if the main spring isn't worn out.
