Removed Front Site Post & connection Pins. But the Site post won't come Off the barrel.

Has anyone removed the Front Site Post? Any ideas for removing the post after the pins have been removed.

Vise, more heat & hammer (wood block) the barrel back while the post is being held by the vise!

Any ideas?

I wouldn't use much heat, you'll hurt the finish, possibly the temper of the barrel.

A hydraulic press, slow even pressure with the post backed up on brass, aluminum or other soft metal stock should do it.

I purchased a 12 Ton floor model press. Heated the barrel some. Applied 12 tons of pressure slow. She didn't move any. Did not want to take the chance of binding the barrel! So I will try again at a later date or cut-up. As for the $106 after tax press. I will need to press off & on control arm bushing on my vintage M3. I got on sale from Harbor Freight regular $199.00 + tax. I saved $110. Will use for other jobs. It will pay for itself!

The presses are an invaluable tool for the advanced mechanic and builder.  With that said...

You will need to heat up the BSB/bayo lug combo to press it off.  They are on there tight due to being interference fit and then heated to install.  There will be discoloration of the finish.  Don't heat the barrel, just the assembly.  M-44 Mosins are the same way.
