Why is it so hard to get the "latch" behind the trigger guard to engage when you're reassembling an SKS?  I've found this to be difficult with three different SKS's.

Is there a trick to this?

The one I'm talking about is the one the guy is depressing in the pic below.

Reassembly
Just firm whack with palm of your hand, you only use tool when taking apart

This.

Don't baby it.  There is no finess to this.  Just get it into the right spot and smack it into place.

I have pounded the shit out of it.  Seems like more effort than it should be.

(guy in the pic is not me)

I have run into one like that before.  I know I'm gonna catch hell for saying this but here goes anyway.

put folded towels on the floor and place it trigger guard up on them.

Stand on it to put it back in.

It's a sks, it can take it.

Careful not to bust your ass!

Mine is hard.  I put it upside down on a table, get it lined up, and put my weight into it.  It eventually clicks into place.

Is the  safety on????! Has to be to reinstall the trigger group.

It's not hard. I have never had a problem with it.

What I do is engage the safety, lay the rifle flat upside down. I take the trigger group put it in place and then stand up and push down really hard and it always snaps right in to place.

This is what I do. I put all 300 pounds of me on it when I push it down. It snaps right in every time.

It doesn't have to be but if you want the safety to work right and not break or bend the safety spring then yes the safety does need to be engaged.

>>Is the safety on????!<<

I suspect that's where the problem lies.

I used a rubber mallet this time.  Much easier.

I did not know that. I rest the top of receiver on wood and put my weight into the trigger guard.

Safety has to be on (lever to the top of the trigger housing), place the trigger assembly on a corner of the work bench and push in.  Should snap in.

Another thing you can try is using a C-clamp.  Just make sure you put something that won't scratch the stock or trigger guard.

Yep, not a problem when I sit on it.

How's it going Steve?  It's been awhile.
