I hate to be that guy but just for clarification. I bought a $200 Chinese sks from RTI. They're sold cheaper bc the stocks are sold as damaged/ cracked. I simply want to replace the stock with another plain wood Chinese stock from eBay. I don't have to worry about 922r compliance bc the rifle is still in the sporter/ importable state correct? Or am I completely wrong here?

You are fine doing that.  Imported part for imported part which does not change the configuration.

That me for the reply, reading the 922 stuff on the SKS is confusing as heck- but that might be bc I know little about SKS parts in general

922r is one of those ridicules laws that makes no sense. That aside, if you are restoring it to the imported configuration, you're good to go.
