I know this has probably already been covered, but i couldnt find it anywhere. But, does anyone know where the current batch of Chinese sks's were imported from? They appear to be well-used. I just bought 2 of them, and began wondering where they came from. Thanks for any help.

The general census I've seen is they came from Albania.  China either gave them a bunch as a form of aid, or the Albanians bought them from China for their military.  Supposedly, a lot of the latest batch of Chinese type 53 rifles also came through Albania.  Makes sense, as firearms from China can't be imported FROM China, but if they are in another country, are OK.

That makes sense, since they cant be imported directly from China anymore. Thanks.

There's also been rumors of some of them coming in somehow through Vietnam.  But that rumor was more aimed towards the Type 53's, which means there could be significant historical aspects to them...if China supplied the NVA and Vietcong with them, they may have been used in battle against us.  Just another piece of the puzzle, and why collecting old milsurps is so great!

Tempted to pickup one of these recent chinese SKS rifles but the rough exterior hold me back. Since people here seem familiar, are the internals good? Are they worth it compared to a yugo?

Uh...No !

Yugo M59's are probably the best SKS made, The early ones have gorgeous Walnut stocks.

That is not a true in my experience.  The Chinese SKS (Norinco to a lot of people) are just more familiar to folks in the U.S., and the herd mentality leads to that conclusion.  Sure, the Yugo SKS imported recently are used and not new commercial models, and the stocks may be worn.  The myth of the chrome lined barrel better somehow better seems to sway people, but in shooting both side by side with the same ammo my M59 out-shoots (accuracy) my Chinese SKS all day long.

The recent Chinese SKS imports came from Albania.  My example of a recent Chinese SKS import even has an Albanian bolt carrier replacement and a cut down Albanian SKS stock.

I picked up a chinese sks from classicfirearms.com.  It's the only sks I own.  The stock is a little beat up...adds character.  The metal is all in great shape.  VERY accurate.  The most accurate iron site rifle I own.  All matching numbers.  Supposedly, a "ghost rifle" as it has no triangle 26 arsenal mark.  It's a keeper and a shooter. YMMV.

Kinda late to the party here.

But the chinese SKS rifles do not equal the russian SKS rifles on any level.  Or any of the SKS rifles made by soviet controlled countries.
