I put the BHO back in and it works, was I not supposed to put it in? I haven't shot it yet because I'm still waiting on furniture and rivets to arrive in the mail (AR pistol grip was temporary), but I can remove the BHO & trigger axles if they're not supposed to be there.

I retained the BHO with both my S12 and 7.62 conversions. As you know, it's a bit finicky to install, and takes some patience. I think most people just give up on it, deem it "unnecessary", and leave it off. For me, I thought it was worth a little bit of extra work to retain.

Haha yeah I am part of the "unnecessary BHO" club. I left mine off after conversion, and instead use Krebs Custom Safety lever (also fixes the 308 safety issue) with built in BHO notch... i never liked the original BHO on the gun anyway. I prefer being able to see it locked in and held open from the outside rather than play around with the little tab and hoping it catches. The Surefire mags also have a built in BHO feature that kicks in after the last round is fired and holds until magazine is removed.

Very nice. What kind of stock adapter is that? I'm interesting in replacing my crappy TAPCO T6.

It's from VLTOR. It's rock solid and has the QD mounts on it. Not cheap but well worth the money.

thanks,
Ron

Any details on this gun?

Restored Saiga x39. Actually my favorite AK in the safe right now. Spent about 2 weeks on the restorations and modifications.

What front sight post fits Saigas other than the AK74? I like the slant brake look better. (I did a 74 FSP on the last Saiga and didn't care for the flash hider at all). I tried installing a Russian Type III front sight post as well as a Romanian today and neither of them fit. They just slid down the barrel because the barrel was too thin. I ended up cutting the front of the sight post and moving the entire unit forward about an inch, then modifying the post to take the muzzle brake retainer pin and spring. I don't want to leave it this way forever, I want a proper front sight post.

This is what I ended up with:

A front sight post, pistol grip, buttstock, and paint job seem to be the only things holding me back from completion.

I couldn't get a definite answer on front sight post, so I just stuck with the original. Here's the finished product:

I ended up shaving the four holes on the sides by welding them shut, then I welded shut three holes on the bottom (one hole under trigger guard), then I welded the original Saiga trigger guard to the original Saiga mag release, riveted the rear trigger guard tang in place, filed down the mag release, riveted in a bullet guide, sandblasted the entire thing, parkerized it, and powdercoated afterwards.

922(r) - Trigger, Hammer, Disconnector, Piston, Muzzle brake, mag follower.

Here's my latest conversion..

It's not 100% complete, but it's shooting great.. :)

I like it.....looks good

My first effort. I plan to replace the front sight with a bobbed Bulgarian sight and thread the barrel for a hider. I'm thinking Yankee Hill Machine YHM33. I have a leather sling to oil up and hang on it also.

What's the poop with those magwells on the S12's? Are they worth having, or just something cool to look at?
