Who makes it?  I bought 2 of these as a impulse buy on an ammo order, I believe at Ammo To Go.  Hopefully it will serve as a decent range mag.  The only steel parts are the spring, base plate, and feed lips liner.  The liner does not extend to the front of the magazine or the locking tab.

I have some steel ridgeback Bulgies as well (although they also have polymer followers, so I guess people will tell me they are crap).

How do they stack up, quality wise, in the world of AK mags?

I think I paid $8-9 for these a few years back.  I figure the non-reinforced locking tab means these suckers can break without warning.  I'm guessing the polymer is weak, too.

This is the mag SIG is shipping with the 556R rifle in 7.62x39. Seems to be a decent mag to me.

Interesting.  Are you referring to the 556xi in 7.62x39, or the version prior to the xi?

Those are Bulgarian smooth side commercial mags. Great range mags (a step above tapco in my mind) but wouldn't use them for serious use.

X2.  Get some (10) and steel mags for your 556R.  The (10) will need slight grinding under the front notch to fit.  Ask me how I know!

I had some of them, the front lugs break very easily. I broke this one trying to get it to seat. This was just from slapping the mag with my hand.

Well, I'm glad I spent less than $20 for the 2.

Here's the mags I normally use.  They are Bulgies with plastic followers, so I guess they are commercial.  They have never given me trouble, but admittedly, I don't do a whole lot of shooting with my AK.

So, who makes the metal mags I use?

And, why is it that in the AK world, people don't seem to be interested in what company makes gear, only which country it comes from?  In the AR world, we don't talk about "American mags" or "Canadian mags", we say Magpul, Thermold, etc.  I'm guessing the answer is "communism", but surely these days there are multiple private companies in each eastern bloc country making AK-related products, no?

Oh, and thanks for putting up with my AK ignorance.  My only AK is an Arsenal SGL-21 that I got when they were like $500.  I wish I had bought a stack of them, but it wasn't in the cards at the time.

I don't have a Sig.  I wanted one, but the version 1 hiccups turned me off.  I have it on good authority that they are planning on releasing a 556xi in 7.62x39 in pistol configuration w/ the Sig brace.  All the functionality of a SBR in 7.62x39, without the registration hassles?  Yes, please!

Hopefully, the xi in 7.62x39 won't have mag fitting issues.

Because most of the mags are being bought as surplus and noone is 100% certain what specific company made them. They only know the nation of origin. Some nations of origin have developed a better reputation for quality than others.......Also, many of the magazines for sale are used and there is no real way to know where they came from with certainty. That's why you hear things like "Standard Euro Pattern Mag"......Generally that means a 30 round, ribbed back magazine. Could have been made in Russia, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria or East Germany- and it doesn't really matter- they're all the same for the most part.

So, no one knows who makes the metal mags pictured?

Interesting.

Usually the rib pattern, weld markings, and, if present, any proof stamps on the spine help to identify the country of orgin.

I would be willing to guess that many were not marked on purpose so country of origin could not be traced for one reason or another.

Uh, didn't you post that they are Bulgarian?

From what you describe, those are not mil-spec and most people use them as range mags.

A country is not a company.  That would be like if I showed you a PMAG, you asked me who made it, and I told you "America".

Nobody knows and nobody cares, they either work or they don't. Only AR owners are anal about magazines- they have to be....Country of origin is usually good enough.

Are there any factory stamping? You expect us to know if you don't post photos of markings?

((10)) is Arsenal Inc.
((21)) is NITI Kazanlak

I can't respect a person that is too blind to see the pictures I posted, then complains about me not posting pictures.  Sorry.

Since there are no markings on the metal mags (as clearly shown in my pictures), I guess it will remain a mystery.  Oh well, they seem to be working well.

I will be excited when Magpul releases their reinforced AK mags... that way I have a product from a manufacturer w/ a no B.S. warranty.  It may take a while to be released, and that's okay.  Magpul has stated that they spent 3 years and 100,000 rounds developing the gen 3 AR mags.  They are also very quick to fix any issues that are discovered in the field, and make their customers happy.

If any of my Bulgarian mags break (like the pics above from gtate), I have no one to go to.

The markings are too small to see in your pics.

They are very small and sometimes very faint.

Well then, I stand corrected.  My apologies.
I went over my mags again with a fine-tooth comb in the light, and I found numbers on the end of the locking tabs.  This would be the surface that faces the rear of the rifle when locked into the rifle.  They all have a single digit, but the number varies.
ETA: These numbers are the only markings I can find.

Kind of looks like an upside down 6 or a backwards 9:

A 3 maybe?

You don't see anything here? Neither do I:

That would be a "2":
