I don't remember exact prices but i remember it was one of the first types of ammo to return to near normal prices.

I wasn't buying then but really the prices were all over the place.
Anywhere from .40-1.00 rd.

I even recall wooden practice ammo was posted up once and it was gone within minutes. The bullets were actually made of soft wood

This is why i dont get people getting all bent out of shape for buying at todays prices.

During the panic I was able to get some WPA from AIM for $5.39/bx.  Also I was able to get Tula from Wal-Mart for $5.27/bx plus tax.

I saw lots of .50-60 a round prices locally

[#7]
So did it get up to 50 cents per round?

I know 223/556 was at 60 cents to $1 per round at the top of the market on average. But deals could be found if you had a lot of time on your hands - some where around 50 cents per round.

I am thinking about getting an AK 47 because of cheaper ammo and because of the history.... Just want more detail on 7.62x39 during the 2013 panic. Does anyone know Gunbroker prices and retailer prices. Gunbroker on 223/556 was about roughly 15-20 cents per round cheaper than dick dealers like cheaperthandirt.

I really appreciate the help.

I just looked at Natchez 2012 Master Catalog and 7.69x39 was about 25 cents per round for WPA. 2 days ago, I saw WPA for less 22 cents per round.

Prior to the panic $200 per K was my buy price. You have to expect some normal of inflation if nothing else .

Not to doubt ya, but where were you finding 'x39 for $200 per K just prior to the panic? That sounds more like 2005-2006 prices unless my memory has gone to mush.

I suspect BSery is afoot. People love to brag about buying things at low prices because it makes them feel exclusive.

Haven't found any smoking deals bought wolf .223 a few months ago from cabelas for 4.99 box and the generic white box 7.62x39 from sg was 209 but shipping made it come out to about 235.

During the panic it was like $280-300 average shipped per 1K

You could find it cheaper but it went quick.Of course some places it was lot higher.

I did sell a case of Tula x39 for $425, yep i neck bearded it.

I buy 500 rd boxes and my breakeven price was always shipped.  With that in mind my cutoff was $125/500 for brown bear poly or lacquer  with some free shipping deals in the $115 to $120 range.

$200 per 1000 before the panic seems very believable.  SG had their white box wolf for $210 per 1000 just last week.

8 years before, maybe. The prices we're seeing now are lower across the board than they were in the year or so pre-panic. The market's been flooded with the stuff recently like it hasn't been in years. I can't remember the last time so many different brands of 7.62x39 were all available simultaneously like this. Probably 2003, when you could get at least 4 varieties of Wolf, all of the Bear brands, Golden Tiger, and some others I can't remember. Cases for $180 delivered... good times!

I just hope this isn't a neckbeard post.

I'll agree with those who said pre-panic prices of around $200 - $220 per k before shipping.

Mid panic, $250 - $300 or so. Then there were a few insane prices out there, too.

A local gun store sent out an email informing us all that there is no more ammo coming from Russia, but they had a few cases of 7.62 left, and they are selling it for $367.00

Nice, huh?

I would never buy a thing from them again. I guess a lot of stupid people with more money than brains if they jump on that "deal"

I keep seeing this "neckbeard" word come up in these post. Who or what is a neckbeard and what do they have to do with ammo ?  Best I can find say it's a fat slob that sits on the net all day. Guess I'm just old and out of the loop

Yeah, I don't get it either. From what I can tell, it might be a person who doesn't go shoot up all of their ammo immediately after buying it. No wait, that's a squirrel, or a flipper or something. Hell, I don't know.. .

I just found a January 8, 2013 receipt from Cabela's for Herter's 122gr FMJ... $4.99/box.

I bought 21 boxes because I had a $5 shipping for $100 order coupon.

Total price was $109.83 (includes shipping, tax and minus a few Cabela's CLUB points)  for 420 rounds which brings it to a little over 26 cents per round.

IIRC, back in 2003, I was buying wolf for 100/1000 from cabelas.  Went up a bit after that to the 200/K area.  200K is rare but not unbelievable.  Just before 2013, I was buying Yugo cases for right around 20 cents/rd, IIRC, maybe less now that I think about it.  Bought 2 cases for just over 200 each.  Still have them.

Read, you'll find one that fits. I also refer to them as WalMart scooter trash. Groder is a more accurate term because they have the same grooming standards, it just never really caught on. Like the stinky fat fuckers at gun shows.
