Wolf Lacquer, CORROSIVE. (pic heavy)
dharbolt  [Member]
So last weekend i went out and put exactly 60 rounds of wolf lacquer through my ar 15 chambered in 7.62x39. It was a camping trip in southern ohio so needless to say it was a bit humid. Earlier today i finally got some time to clean up from last weekend and this is what I found.

Sans receiver

So there was some fairly deep pitting left behind and needless to say this barrel is going to the scrap heap. Before everyone asks it is a yhm barrel that is near the end of it's serviceable life anyway, having had around 10,000 rounds through it and no chrome lining. won't go cheap again I suppose. Not trying to bash any suppliers but I also don't want anyone else to ruin a perfectly good barrel either.

E.T.A. I will continue to shoot this ammo as it is hotter and seemingly more accurate, I will just be much more careful with my cleaning habits. I suppose I needed an excuse to buy the fluted chrome lined yhm barrel in x39 anyway

Looks like someone over at AKFiles reported the same corrosion issues. This concerns me...

Im positive (from prior experaince) that Wolf will buy the OP's remaining ammo back or exchange it. What I'm wondering is if they will be willing to buy him a new barrel?

i just ordered 500rds of this stuff from AIM friday night,im positive it hasnt shipped yet. i just sent bryan an IM to see if i can get brown bear instead. i dont want to shoot this stuff if its corrosive. not good
ftw13  [Team Member]
damn brian is fast,he switched my order to brown bear instead of the ukranian wolf! HUGE +1 for brian and AIM.

Its on the outside case where the content info is located. Not on the individual boxes themselves...

Example, this one would be LOT 38S

LOL, this is like a less serious "Operation Eldest Son".

Admittedly this doesn't look good for Wolf. I don't know how humid southern Ohio is, but (There's always a but) it seems that not doing at least some remedial cleaning for a week is certainly lax. With all the corrosion problems we've faced with Eastern European type ammo it only seems logical to be suspect of any of it & treat it as corrosive until it's been well established that the source can be trusted. This could've been avoided with a good squirt down with a 90/10 mixture of water & Ballistol, treating the gas tube, barrel & FCG. I'm not picking on the OP, I feel for him. These threads are much too common for any of us not to be skeptical of anyone's claims. Good luck getting it straightened out with Wolf. I bought a case myself.

You do make some good points about the cleaning, I was definitely a little more lazy than usual. We were camping through downpours, I actually did soak the barrel and upper/bcg in clp before packing the rifle up. Funny thing is not a spec of rust on my bcg.

Ya know the gasses on your gas key should have dicked that up too. Pics please.

I brought a 1000rds of Wolf Lacquer on 4/5/12. Lot # 435 Have only shot a 100rds since. After a day or two I check the rifle for rust, nothing. Thought I was in the clear so haven’t check again. I just double-check and there are rust on my SGL21!

As you can see there a lot of rust on muzzle brake and some on bolt face. Also spots of rust inside the receiver.

This getting really absurd now. Back in Dec I ordered 1000rds of KSAP 7.62 and that turn out to be corrosive as well. I guess it was bad luck, but now a second times! It clearly said “non-corrosive” on the box. When I buy “non-corrosive” I expected to be just that. I usually would clear my rifles right after shooting, but sometime I can’t for whatever reason. The whole point of buying newly made ammo is that you don’t have to worry about rust destroying your’s guns. I’m not sure what the hell is going over there.

i got burned by some "non corrosive" Russian .223 years ago in my dads AR-15. same thing.
BullittBoy  [Member]
This is the same "supplier" from the Ukraine that shipped 5.45 I bought from another supplier and it said "Non-Corrosive" on the boxes and everyone found out it was corrosive.
When I saw Wolf was using them now I had a funny feeling they only make corrosive ammo-the 5.45 looks just like the 7.62, lacquered cases atc.

This is correct, I contacted Wolf this AM about this and was told the same thing.

Just got a 1k of this from AIM... Ugh. Should have stuck with GT or Bear.
