I've been shooting my AK74 and I'm at around 3,000 for round count. The last trip to the range I had a few double feeds.. it happened twice on this current trip to the range. Is there any kind of maintenance that the AK needs around X round count? Is there any kind of maintenance schedule for an AK? More likely to be a faulty magazine?
Are you talking about two live rounds?
Need more details: Have you cleaned the rifle? Lubricated it? What ammo?
My first suspicion would be that your mag is damaged. But depending on what you're calling a double feed it's also possible your extractor didn't remove the fired brass and the bolt tried to drive another round into it.
Can you post pics?
First guess is magazine problem.
What kind of mag(s) were you using?
Occasional cleaning is never a bad idea....might wanna give it a shot.
Clean your AK after each shooting session. The Russians were instructed to clean and lube their AKs in the field or on base whether they were fired or not. The original manuals give details as to how to clean and when. Their Sergeants had to inspect each AK before it could be reassembled. There's no reason for not cleaning your AK unless you're lazy.
Its most likely a dirty/damaged magazine.
Ak's are really hard to double feed..even if you try.
congrats on reaching 3K rounds. Heres what you do:
Have a shot of vodka, and get ready to blast another 2998 malfunction free rounds.
LOL but seriously, if you havent given it a good deep clean, then do so. Completely strip it, FCG group and all, and give it a good scrub with CLP and relube and then take that shot of vodka and blast another 3000 rounds.
