COC for posting in the AR10 and AR180 Forum, w/ ArmaLite's Trademarks and Patents PLEASE READ!
mrraley  [Moderator]
Portions of this post are taken from Aimless' post in AR Discussion about conduct for posting in this forum:

1-Be polite and act like an adult, this is not general discussion. If someone has made a foolish purchase or given foolish advice do not call them names or use profanity. Explain politely what you believe the problem is or contact a moderator or staff member. Similarly if you think someone is shilling please contact me or another staff member and let us investigate.

2-If you are making claims regarding items you have no first hand experience with reconsider doing so.
If you do post in this situation explain the basis for your opinion ie "I read those Manblaster 1000s rust" do not post "I just bought a Chinajunk Acog Clone and it's as good as an Acog but only costs $ 75" if you have never actually seen an Acog.

3-Do not make comments about other members lack of posts or time on the site. There are people who have been here a long time with many posts who cannot hit a damn thing (ie me). There are very experienced military personnel and law enforcement officers who only post here once in awhile. If you think someone is making false statements about their experience or background please contact me or an AR moderator. This has been a problem in the past and will be dealt with.

4-If someone appears new or inexperienced, try to be helpful. If you are new or inexperienced in some area please avoid giving advice about something which you are not knowledgeable about.

5-Please post threads in the correct sections. Please do not post threads about new assault weapon laws, movies or other items that are not related to the physical functioning of ar15s. The mods spend too much time moving this stuff. From now on it will be locked, not moved.

6-Please use thread titles that give some indication what the thread is about. For example if your new Hellblast light does not work try "Hellblast light broke" vs. "well this sucks" or "what do you think about this" Using generic thread titles will make it less likely that someone who if familiar with light (or whatever) will see thread, also the the thread will not show up in SEARCH later when someone else encounters the same problem.

7- (just for this forum)

If someone has posted a question in which they mistakenly used the wrong nomenclature (for example calling a RRA 308 an AR 10), please NICELY AND KINDLY correct them, and if that poster pushes back, it will be handled by staff or moderators, DO NOT feel that you need to take it upon yourself to handle it, simply hit the report button or just go about your day.

AR15.com Site Staff and Moderators have, in the past, had to lock threads in this section due to excessive, childish, and malicious name calling, the derailing of topics of discussion, as well as fighting over the most minuscule things. As a result this has started to create a rift in the community. One of the reasons for these past locks was the situation was allowed to get out of hand due to Staff and Moderators being spread a bit too thin.

This forum was created so questions could be asked and answered in a technical, civil, and above all, respectful manner. As of late, those words do not come to mind when reading in this forum, but that's about to change. As a whole, this site is fortunate to have some very knowledgeable members posting here. The biggest shame is that when those people choose to speak up and provide good additional insight from their firsthand expertise, the thread risks being trashed or locked due to the actions of a few malicious respondents.

The Staff and Moderators do not live on the internet –– we all have full-time jobs which require lots of energy (both physical and cerebral), and the last thing we want to do is get on the computer and read a bunch of name calling and fighting. One navigates to AR15.com so that they can read up on their favorite hobby or sport, but to come here, during their free time, and read a bunch of garbage is getting old fast.

This site, and specifically this forum, was created to facilitate technical discussion of all things Ar10/AR180. When people come in not knowing much about them and ask a harmless question, and their question turns into a pissing match over whose bolt breaks first, or which round is more readily available in stores, it hurts the community as a whole. The reason we read here is because we ALL enjoy the AR10 etc, and its variations. So lets keep this in mind.

PLEASE NOTE ONCE AGAIN

If someone has posted a question in which they mistakenly used the wrong nomenclature (for example calling a RRA 308 an AR 10), please NICELY AND KINDLY correct them, and if that poster pushes back, it will be handled by staff or moderators, DO NOT feel that you need to take it upon yourself to handle it, simply hit the report button or just go about your day.

Thanks AR15.com Moderators

AR-10, ArmaLite, the ArmaLite logo, and SPR are registered trademarks of ArmaLite Inc.

AR-10A2, AR-10A4, and AR-10(T), AR-180B, AR-24, AR-30, AR-50, AR-50A1, and M-15 and it's variants are trademarks of ArmaLite, Inc.

ArmaLite's relieved bolt lug, various AR-10B magazine features, and ArmaLite's .22-2000 cartridge are protected by U.S. Patents.

How's that for boring.

Oh, and "AR stands for ArmaLite."

Some good questions have been asked in this thread and we should answer a few.

1. You need not use (R) or (tm) after designations when you're just writing about them. Neither do we. We must use it in certain writings to keep the trademark. The main purpose of this post was simply to alert the public and possible competitors to our trademarks so there's no conflict.

Three companies have encroached on the AR-10 trademark, and another threatens to. So it's a valid concern.

2. The .22-2000 is still a project, but we can't describe it now. In the meantime, the technology is being focused on a higher priority military project.

3. Anybody is welcomed to make a lower receiver, unless it's produced from ArmaLite's proprietary technical information. We weocome experimenters to the ArmaLite family and will naturally provide AR-10 parts to complete their rifles.
