I like some from the MK 18 & CQBR thread Hope some of the guys Petes1552 ECPrevatte TinyCrumb don't mind if I post there pics. I really like this pattern

I had to reply to this thread. Thank you very much for posting. I was awake also at 1:30 but didn't see this coming. Thankfully I subscribed to this thread. Alrighty then, in my world it's cup of coffee time. I sat back and watched your progress. I'm glad you were doing the work instead of me. This way I had fun and you took all the risks. What risks? Man, when I watched the scoring for the gas block my heart was in my throat. I'm a former plumber and have done many pieces of fabricating and making fine cuts and know about oops. Glad that it worked out. I'm collecting stuff for my first build, so I haven't done it yet, but have done beaucoup research. Your thread was awesome. Then you went on to paint the darn thing, wow. In my book you are a craftsman, and I mean that with the highest regard. I know craftsmanship, and you're there. If you would indulge and tell me where to gather info, and materials for the paint job, I'd appreciate it. I'm book marking this page for sure. Too bad for me that it is too early to hit the garage, but I can't wait to get closer to my hobby about now. Four O brother Four O.

Nice work, what paint did you use ? Masters ? Anyways, great pictures on your progress throughout the build, lots of patience. Not too many people take pictures like STICKMAN. Don't sell yourself short, isolate the rifle and take some pictures of it. Eventually you'll get that one shot. Again, beautiful rifle !

Well.....that gas block is never going to move. Perhaps you should also tack weld it to the barrel for a little extra security.

Yes I did use Masters and mixed them to get different shades and colors. I didnt want to use Cerakote or Duracoat because one it would cost a lot for all the paint and I really don't mind if/when I get the worn look on this rifle. lots of patience and time went into this one. |

I really enjoy building these and take my time never rushing. As for the paint job, I have 3 airbrushes that I use and not the really expensive ones ,they were around $50.00 each off of amazon or Ebay. They are Masters dual action gravity fed. If you take care of them and clean them they will work great and are easy to use. Airbrushing allows you to get really fine points and to blend easier and plus mixing paint for use. All the stencils I make. |

when you paint your rifles do you do it with them fully assembled or do you paint all the pieces individually? or do you paint them individually and then assemble and apply another coat? seeing your end result is inspiring me to try this with my next build.

I think that it is a cool idea using a set screw to hold the spring in. also when you painted your rifle what kind of prep work did you do? and what is your go to paint?

I hose every piece down with brake clean, then I wipe them down with Acetone then hit them with my air compressor. I always wear non powdered rubber gloves so no oils will contaminate the parts afterwards. Then I put them in front of my heater to heat them up. The heater is just a little room heater. Its in one of my pictures on the first page, its read and sitting on the floor in front of my rock crawler. The paint I use Is Krylon and Model masters paints ran through the airbrushes. I getting ready to do some Duracoat painting soon as I have been buying some the last couple of weeks. |
