I wont be getting a suppressor, lets get that out of the way right off the bat.

When my buddy and I are hunting, we dont wear EP.  Shot gun signature and my bolt action .270 win really arent all that loud.

What kind of muzzles exist that push all the gas and pressure forward?  Flash cans?

None.

You owe it to yourself to find hearing protection that will work for you in that situation. Unless you want to be saying "What?" a lot or wearing hearing aids at 50 years old. Electronic muffs work well and even enhance normal sounds. However, your perception of where the sound is coming from is not good at all. Maybe higher end ones are better in that regard.

Flash cans do project forward and are great on the range to direct gases away from the guy next to you but are not sufficient at lowering decibels to forsake hearing protection. You and your friend will be sorry later in life.  A .270 is not for small game.

Less than 4 shots per year (usually only 2 or 3 shots all year) large game hunting, I don't bother with hearing protection.  But 3-5 shots in one day small game/varmint hunting, I'd want hearing protection.

What did the OP say? Trust me, after years of no ear protection when I was younger, wish I had used something.

Hearing protection!!!

My father is going through the denial/resistance to wearing them/inability to hear daily conversations now.

No muzzle device will reduce spl enough on full power loads to get the sound below instantaneous hearing loss level.  Every boom, you'll lose a little.

I ordered from kineti tech and picked up one of there zero recoil brakes along with a barrel shroud that threads on over it.  Figure if I ever get a suppressor stamp down the road, the 13/16" x 16 threaded muzzle might come in handy.

Also I picked up a set of enhanced hearing protection off Amazon, I took yall's advice.
