Well, one of the last pieces of the puzzle that is my first AR came in the mail today. The ATI AR-15 X2 Scorpion Recoil Pistol Grip.

This thing looks cool. (Or should I say "tacti-cool") And that is the only reason I bought it.

There is really no place near me to try out different grips. So, I had no idea if I would like it or not.

I took it out of the box and gripped it. It felt really good. Nice contour. Firm and comfortable.

And then ..... I installed it.

I have ... maybe ... average sized hands. Once installed, I couldn't reach the safety without letting go of the grip and turning the gun a bit.

After realizing that, I studied it a bit more. I am still waiting for my MBT trigger group to arrive. But I could see that this grip would cause me to reach for the trigger as well.

(EDIT: Nor can I reach the mag release.)

It's just too big for my hands. I would go so far as to say that it's too big for most people's hands.

----

So, what grip do you recommend for a noob with average hands? (7" from heel of the palm to tip of mid finger)(I can just see eveyone rushing for a tape measure)

I have a cheap plastic one that came in my lower build kit. It has a major fitment issue and a hollow base I don't like.

Maybe the MOE?

What exactly is the fitment issue you describe? I'm assuming it's an A2 grip which has served millions of people fine if it's not your bag then the MOE is fine and I actually prefer the Old A1 grip over anything else out there. BCM also makes some grips that i've tried and liked but really it's going to be try something until you find something that works for you. That scorpion though, I hope you can return it! Good luck with your search.

If you take a grip in your right hand and aim to the left, the radius in the upper left is waaaayyyyy off on mine.

This messed up radius will not allow the grip to seat correctly.

Like I said, it's cheap and came in my Spike's Tactical Lower Parts Kit.

There are others on here that have found these grips to have the same issue for them.

Well, I broke out a file and some sandpaper. Got the cheap grip to fit well enough for now.

I'll probably order a Magpul MOE K (or K2) eventually.
