I've got 2 builds from stripped receivers under my belt so far.  One was a Vltor MUR upper on a Seekins SP223 lower.  The second was a Seekins Upper & Lower.  I'm looking to start my 3rd build which will be a 14.5" pinned mid-length.

I've got it narrowed down to the following uppers/lowers so far and I'm trying to figure out which is the best way to go.  I have no experience with Noveske or Mega.  I've narrowed it down to these based solely on cosmetics.  I was wondering if I could get your opinions on which of these you liked, and why.

  • Noveske Gen 3 Lower & VLTOR MUR Upper - I really like the VLTOR MUR on my other build and I've seen lots of other pics here on ARF of this combination and the builders seem to be happy with it.  Just judging by the pictures, this upper & lower seem to match up well but its always hard to say without seeing it first hand.

  • Noveske Gen 3 Lower & Matching Noveske Upper - Maybe its better to go all matching?

  • Mega Matching Upper & Lower - I know very little about Mega except that they seem very popular.  I really like the look of their matched upper & lower and I notice that the product description mentions it has the set screw to tighten the upper/lower fit.

The upper/lower will most likely be paired up with an MI Keymod or MLok Rail (Haven't decided which yet).

What do you think?

I don't have any experience with Noveske, but I haven't read anything bad on them.

I literally just put a billet Mega upper and forged Mega lower together at lunch (just to fit, not built), and I damn near had to get a mallet out to get them together.

I can't speak to performance yet, but I don't see how anything could fit tighter than that.

The finish is the best I've seen, but I really only have experience with Spike's and Aero.

You can't go wrong with any of the 3 options, but I personally wouldn't do the Noveske Lower/VLTOR Upper. I would match a Noveske upper and lower if I were going to do a Noveske build. This is solely a cosmetic opinion.

My 2 Mega Billet ambi builds are flawless, VERY tight when you receive them, but they "work" themselves in to be very functional yet perfectly tight enough to not have any looseness once you use the rifle.

My vote goes to Mega, just because I love the way they look. But a matched Noveske set I did consider when I was deciding on which billet set to get, and if you decide to go with one you won't regret it.

Basically depends on which one you like the look of most. If you want to spend about 50% more than a Mega Ambi set to get the Noveske set (price wasn't exactly a factor in my "no expense spared builds", but it may be something to consider). Noveske definitely has brand recognition, but then again, so does Mega - all I see on here are people saying that Mega receiver sets are very hard to beat for fit and finish.

Best of luck deciding. Like I said, either way your rifle will be beautiful.

I have an SBR with a Noveske Gen I lower and Noveske MUR upper and a SPR with a Gen III lower and matching Noveske Gen III upper.  Both have NSR rails. The Gen III upper looks way better because the lines match perfect with the NSR rail.  Dont get me wrong, I love my Gen 1 lower with the MUR upper but I regret not getting the Gen III set first and doing the form 1 on the Gen III lower becuase of how good the Gen III lower and upper look together.  Lanbo's Armory had the best price on the matching Gen III set. i would not put a MUR on a Gen III lower when for a little more money you can get the Gen III upper.  I cant speak to the Mega because I do not own one. Good luck.

working on my 7th mega build, this one will be a 12.5" 6.8 SBR, what will come first the stamp or the 9" megalithic upper?

You can't go wrong with either, seriously just preference! I have various receivers barrels and hand guards from them all, and their fit and finish and overall quality are second to none.

I have used four Mega uppers and lowers for builds but had to slum it with forged instead of billet. All worked great!

Each one was built with nsz85 youtube channel running on my ipad to help guide me along.

Thanks nsz85!

Fuck that nsz85 guy.... What does he know with all of his informative YouTube videos and shit.  Lol na I'm jk.  I personally went noveske matched set. I originally had the noveske mur upper and decided to sell it for a matched set.  They line up fairly well but when you pay that kind of premium you don't want fairly well.  That's why I went the way I did.  They're awesome uppers but I think they are meant to be used with the gen 2 lowers.  I watched the mega factory tour video and was thoroughly impressed with their machining and qc standards.  How ever a buddy of mine just did a mega build and was disappointed.  He said he wished he had went with larue or noveske.  I can't remember.  But in the end do what you feel will set you at ease.  Don't want to be iffy when we're talking that kind of money.

Fortis Rails, not sure what model THAT one is, because I am not entirely familiar with them.

My MEGA Maten and my SBR both have Fortis SWITCH Rails. The one on my Maten is a 14" rail over a 18" barrel and the one on my SBR is a 9"rail over a 10.3" barrel. www.FortisMFG.com
