Finally got my new stick roughed together.  Waiting on small parts but ever simple FDE component is its own color tone of tan.

So the real only option is to cerakote it.  I'm just stuck wondering if it's worth it.

FDE hand guard, upper, lower, grip, and stock.  All slightly different takes on FDE.

Bonus if I do decide to paint is it will take may less paint then if I was going over black.

And another thing new to me.  I in Midwest industries showroom yesterday, and saw some pmags that looked white.  Asked about them and apparently they are made to be dyed with fabric dye.

I bought three.  Anyone else seen these?

I would look at the slight color variations as I would look at a camo pattern.the differences actually could help break up the lines of your rifle. All the same color can make it easier to see. As for white mags..never seen..but rit dye can be used I guess so you can custom ize . sounds interesting

Cool...  bright orange and purple to match two of my builds would be really cool...

Most every take on FDE varies slightly from company to company. Are you sure the Pmags you bought weren't their "sand" color?

sounds perfectly normal. differing shades constitutes camouflage in my book.

Its not the shades that bother me.  It's just finding FDE. I have resigned myself to limiting FDE to the free float rail for this precision build I have going.  But not finding FDE's in stock.

If you want your rifle to be all matchy matchy then you will need to cerakote it. I've seen slight variations in All the colors (though FDE is the most noticeable) from the same manufacturer even.

Gen 3 mags, official color is sand. Supposedly the strongest mag they have made to date. I purchased 3 also recently, not sure what color I am going to dye them yet.

My build is almost all FDE also, I should have the rail and barrel back from my friend tomorrow with fresh Magpul FDE Cerakote.

I've even seen "black" parts that were varying shades of dark gray.

The problem with the theory that color variations creates "camouflage" is that camouflage is how you break up hard lines. If that same hard line (such as where the receiver halves come together, or where the hand guard meets the receiver) is where the color variance is, it doesn't create camouflage.

Dark highs. Light lows. No hard lines.

All that worry over a slight color variation.

Here it is.  I know, I know, it's just a color, but this gun, has been a paper project for two years.  I spent so much time into just reading and every component was though out, planned.......just a lot of dedication and the color is just going to bug me.  Don't bust my balls, not a superficial person at all, but I want this rifle to at least start pretty but wear it's scars later.

On the other hand, wow is it light.  When I hand to someone else, they just giggle.  Feels like a damn toy.

AR15s make life so damn Pleasant.

The mags are the the new the new gen3.  What's the improvment ?

All i have to say is I only build black rifles and even they are different shades. Its just not as obvious.

If you want it all the same color Cerakote is the only way

Wow that does look pretty bad. That would bug the hell out of me and I'm not that picky. Probably would spraypaint it tan and call it a dya

Duracoat.

It's less expensive, and more forgiving to apply.

I like both the air cure and the Durabake.

It's plenty durable too.

I am in the same boat as you, but I think I actually like all the variation. There is no way I'm duracoating anything. Although I don't like how bronze my upper is.
