Nice!  Range report yet?  Looks a lot like mine, except I ended up with a MOE handguard instead of a free float setup.

Haven't got to shoot it yet. I went to the range today but I had to settle for just shooting my pistol because they were replacing the back plates in the rifle lanes. oh well. I probably would have gone with a MOE handguard as well but a buddy had the rail he took from an old build and sold to me.

$8.88 for a little swag lol It was my favorite part when I first got done lol. Eventually I'll swap everything into an Aero Precision "Freedom" lower, then start build #2. I think my next one will be an AR10 .308

Good looking rifle.....for your first time. Just kidding of course, very good looking rifle.

I respect the cohones to build your first AR. I bought a factory rifle for my first instead of building because I wanted to have adequate time to see how things work, decide what I did & didn't like and because I had NO patience

Great build! It looks awesome. Good job on piecing it together with good parts, for an amazing price. I haven't even finished my first build (should be done this coming friday), and I'm already ordering another lower for another project. I've got the bug now. Haha. Once again good job!!

Great looking build!!  I'm hopefully finishing the upper on my first build this weekend and it will be done.  I went little over your budget though.  I'm afraid to actually total it all up.  I'll probably wait to do that until after it's finished, maybe less pain.  I do have an extra crush washer on hand so might as well start planning the next build......

Good luck with the AFG. I tried but they never worked for me; I think a lot of people ditch them and just hold the rail or get a stubby VFG and hold it or use it as a handstop.

Also, a build isn't complete until there's brass on the shell deflector...:)

That looks great! really like the FDE/Black.
I'm assembling as well but cheated and got an assembled upper, maybe next time I'll start from scratch. I've already spent over $100 just on tools!

You did good, JH.  You might consider painting the metal parts to match the tan colored furniture.  I've often day-dreamed of an 5.56 carbine in 100% Coyote Brown, the new standard GI color for web gear and boots. - CW
