I test fired a new barrel and it shoots good!

I want to have it Black Nitride treated but I have experienced barrel extensions coming loose after the process.

Thinking about removing the barrel extension and replacing it after Nitride.

IF YOU HAVE DONE THIS.

Did it work out okay?

Any problems?

Not sure but I don't think you can just take of the barrel extension and have it line up correctly with the gas port after the treatment process. It has been verified that nitriding with the barrel extension in place will loosen it up and cause it to unscrew from the barrel under minimal torque.

I would be curious to know if this is possible.

That kind of stuff needs to be done before the barrel extension is added and the gas port is drilled.

Barrels should be torqued to the BE at 150 ft/lbs.
After nitrite there is no way it will line back up at 150 ft/lbs.
If you want a nitrided barrel get it from one of the places that do it right.

Going to be more expensive than just buying a new barrel. As others have pointed out the gas port won't align properly so you'll need to fill in the hole and drill a new one after torquing the extension
