I'm new to the game and I need a new lower receiver since I broke mine due to a rookie mistake. my broken lower is from a DPMS oracle. The only lower in my price range are PSA blems. I am looking at buying a complete magpul blem from PSA but It would be over $100 cheaper for me to buy stripped and take the old parts from my lower and put them on the new PSA blem lower. Im just not sure what new parts I would need to do that and I also dont have any special AR tools. If I cant do it on my own is it worth the price to just buy a complete magpul lower instead of the stripped? any opinions on that either would be appreciated. Thank you!

only difference is that one says fire and safe on the side and the other is a pictogram.

Also, next time post links.  I only did you this favor because you seem genuine and are new.

The only difference between the two lowers are the fire/safe markings. One says fire and safe, the other has a bullet pictograms for fire and safe, and all your dpms parts should transfer over fine. But you will probably want to get a new mag catch with roll pin, and maybe trigger guard with roll pin, those can be kind of a pain to remove. Here is an assembly guide.

No problem, I will post links next time. I suspect you are talking about the links to the lowers? Sorry about that.

One last question I think. Isn't the buffer tube pinned? Or how could I remove that with no tools and put it on the new stripped lower? I would have to get to one step that I couldn't do and then have to pay an armorer only to realize I should have went to one in the first place. I dont own a CAR wrench and it says I would need one to tighter that nut.

you don't need one. A flathead screwdriver and a hammer will work.

When you say broken, can you provide more detail? Perhaps it can be fixed and you don't have to buy a new lower. We all make mistakes.

If you do need to get a new lower, just use the parts you have as others have suggested and save the money for ammo.

THIS. I've learned there are VERY crafty and skilled guys on this forum who could probably help you figure out how to fix just about ANYTHING!

He probably dropped the lower and snapped an ear off the trigger guard and is too embarrassed to say so. Not that I'd know when someone has a rookie mistake like that.

Very close Jo. I was trying to remove the trigger guard to install a magpul one and wasn't hitting on a steady surface. I had the rifle laid across my lap instead of on a table. Ended up hitting it at a small angle once and off pops the trigger guard along with an ear. I figured the repair if any is not worth the money, better off to get a new one and cut my loses. Am I wrong?

There are some grips on the market that have built in trigger guards, so your lower may not be trash. Stark is one and I think Daniel Defense has one as well now.

What he said.  The Daniel defense combo trigger guard and grip is one option, see below.

This^^

I avoided this problem by getting a brass insert kit off ebay that converted the roll pin to 4-40 screws. If uou do this mod cleanthe screws with brake cleaner and paint with matte clear paint so they are more rust resistant. Or use stainless screws.

Just get that Stark Grip, the damaged ear should not matter.

Well I appreciate the help from everyone. I ended up tapping out the ears 6/32 and the Magpul trigger guard I was going to use in the first place. Then I put in two 6/32" x 1/4" set screws. I used double bubble epoxy to fix the broken ear. It could obviously look better because I'm no professional but as far as function, it works. Total cost of repair was $8 because I didn't have a tap and drill set in 6/32".

i think i posted those right. hopefully.
anyways, what do you guys think? Im sure I could have sanded down some of the epoxy but im not too worried about it, and after all it is mine not yours.

You can always remove the excess epoxy down the road (if it starts to bother you). I'd say as long as it holds up, run it. Even if it does fail down the road, you'll just be back to where you were. Nothing to lose.

Looks like it turned out pretty well actually, worst case later on just buy the stark or DD grip
