Is it ok to mount on an upper that has feed ramps?

Crap. I think that puts me in the bad category.

unfortunately, it does put you in the bad category.

the bullet will ride the feed ramp in your receiver, and catch on the lip of the barrel.

sorry.

If your upper has ramps and barrel doesn't then yes that is bad.

I had a similar scenario in one of my rifles..

I took a dremmel to it with one of the 1/8" cone grinding bits and just chased the feed ramps until they met.

that was over 2,000 rounds ago.

I thought about that... just not sure I want to dremel a Larue Predator barrel...

You do NOT want to Dremel M4 feed ramps into your Rifle Barrel Extension.  Why not send it to a gunsmith to have an M4 extension installed and not do something that is dangerous?  You could also simply find a upper receiver without the M4 cuts too.  They are still being made and their are lots of older ones floating around on the used market.  Hacking anything up (other than an A2 FSB) with a Dremel tool is foolish IMO.

Just buy a new stripped upper for $50-60.

You could assemble it and see if it runs as is.  If it won't,  buy a stripped upper without M4 ramps and install it. Use ramped upper on a later build.
You wanted to build another carbine anyway right????

I would mount it and it will probably feed rounds just fine.

I was just researching this same topic, as I got a LaRue PredatAR 18" barrel with rifle feed ramps.  Luckily, they got more 18" M4 ramped barrels in stock the next day & I managed to cancel & reorder one with M4 ramps.  But before I did that, I planned on buying an Aero Precision upper receiver WITHOUT M4 ramps.

If you can't exchange for an M4 ramped barrel, don't machine your barrel - just buy a non-M4 ramped upper to mate your barrel with.

Please dont do this.

Use the rifle upper with your barrel.

It's hardly dangerous.  Adco use to say that's what he would do if you sent it in to him, and encouraged you to do it at home.
A pistol barrel with super critical feed angle it is not.

PK usually has uppers without M4 feedramps listed...

You qualified your post RIGHT THERE...
The Dremel is just like any tool.. you can destroy with it very easily, however, you can also use it properly and receive good results.

I'd take a picture of the final result, but my brother has the rifle in another state.

*it works
*it was free because i already had the tools
*it only took me 20-30 minutes.

I understand that you're probably not comfortable with your ability to use a Dremel for precision work, but that doesn't mean that the tool can't be used to create a precise interface.
It's all about the user, not the tool...

Dremmeled mine and it worked YMMV. I would not have done it to a Larue barrel though

Straight from ADCO. M4 Feed Ramps
"We can modify your rifle extension to match the M4 cuts in an upper receiver. All we do is dremmel it to match - we dont remove it and grind to any specific angle. In short, if you have a Dremmel you can do it yourself."

Because changing barrel extensions is somewhere on the spectrum between impractical and impossible.

OP, just get an upper without M4 cuts, easiest and best solution to your situation.
