i ordered a few blems that were on sale (30.00 each) two of the three had very tiny blemishes, but the third looked like a monkey had sanded the side.
i didn't think too much about it because it was cheap and shouldn't hurt the functionality.

well i didnt notice the detent hole for the pivot pin was drilled too high.

that makes the pin crooked.

this sucks because i already milled out this lower.

so the moral of the story is always double check your lowers. although i could have stared at this one for days and probably not seen that the pivot pin detent hole is a few hundredths off.

i wanted to post this because i had not seen this problem before.

honestly, i am just going to sand the pin so it fits flush against the receiver. it will most likely become my truck gun/ steel shooting beater gun. (i know shooting steel has no effect on the lower)

That sucks.  You did a really good job milling the pocket, looks nice.

Put a Colt .250 bolt through there, you wont have to look at it. -W

ETA: Nine bucks at Brownells plus shipping. Genuine Colt part. No detent or spring necessary. (since your hole is fucked up). -W

So.... you're saying it's a working blem?

Keep that shit in GD lego boy. I started this thread to show an actual problem. Yes, the lower is still functional. If it was going to be my only AR, no way in Hell would it be acceptable.

So wait...

You're pissed because your $30 lower is going to have a crooked pin?

blems are generally expected to be cosmetic seconds (BLEMished).
that would be considered out of spec, not a blem.

just like you, I'd be disappointed, get over it and move on.

and i had to go the Colt screw way on a screw up of mine (80%ers used to not have that hole drilled) it works well.

What is all this crazy talk? I thought all lowers are the same and your suppose to get the cheapest one possible.

Also that front pin can now be considered an extended / easy pull take down pin.

Have you considered filling the hole with a piece of 3/32 AL rod and epoxy and redrilling it correctly?

You'd have to fill the vent hole too, but that's just a 5/64 hole, so get two pieces of 7074 rod.

ETA: Actually, from the pictures, it looks like the vent hole might be in the right place...

The first couple lowers I bought back in 2005ish had the detent hole drilled like that.  Paid good money for them, so I sent them back.

This is a tech forum. Keep the smartass comments in GD; I'm quite sure no one wants a time out because they can't follow simple rules.
