Hello all, I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

I am building a medium-range AR in 6.5 Grendel or  6.5 PCC, any general advice is welcome.

However, MY REAL QUESTION is this: I was told it would be better to get a "sturdier" upper to accommodate the longer and heavier target barrel. Something thick walled or made out of billet aluminum. Is this the case?

I found this complete 7075 billet upper for $68.

Seems too good to be true, is it? Any experiences with SOTA?

Thanks!

You get what you pay for with sota.

I ordered a bcg from them in 762x39.  The carrier has less refined machining than my other carriers.   The tension on the bolt required changing the extractor spring for proper function.

I think a different billet choice or just going with a first run non blem forged upper from a decent mfgr would be a better choice.

Thanks for the replies, I was leaning towards the vltor upper anyway.

If something is too good to be true, it usually is. Pity.

It is just a forge  upper not a built machined upper.

I was thinking the same thing from looking at the photos.  Has all the characteristics of a forged lower and none of the billet.

I have several Sota upper receivers, annodized and non-anodized and, they all look machined inside and out. The White receiver photos have visible machining marks.
