I have a patient that's into sport/utility rifles....he's got a factory Colt 16" (pencil barrel), a home built 16" Mid/Heavy bbl (his current favorite), and a 20" flat top (with carry handle in place)..he just finished a 16" Stainless Mid weight bbl on an Aero Lower/Upper...and at my suggestion he got a Geissele trigger (SSA or SSA-E).    Hasn't shot it yet, but wants to scope it with a low powered scope (1-4x) first....(the other two 16" have aimpoints on them).

I'm the one that pointed him to the build it yourself forum on here, which is where he decided to build the latter rifles.      He didn't register, just lurks, but I told him I'd post this to ask....

Does he gain something by building up an 18" SPR type over what he's already got...(he's got a Noveske chainsaw lower, and bought another Geissele trigger...the flat trigger with the same pull as his curved trigger above)?

I've discussed trusts for suppressors and SBRs...and he sounds interested.      If that's the case...would you recommend go that route and get a 10" (or thereabouts) SBR instead?

These are basically for range use....he started with Shotguns (hunting and trap/skeet...never can remember which is which), so he uses one of those for Home Defense....

Thanks for any info!

Since he has a 20. id say get the 10 sbr first then have him scope out his 20 and see if he likes it, not if your talking about an mk12 thats a whole other spr ball game, as me how i know

Well, I would recommend getting both  I would start with the SBR though.  I use it quite a bit more than the SPR.  Nice and handy for walking through the woods.

+1. Have him build an SBR then get a can

Then the SPR. That's pretty much the route I took, but I used a Sig brace instead of doing the SBR thing

Right now you can't beat the deal at DSG. $400 for a complete upper with adjustable gas block, 10'' Seekins Precision rail, and C158 BCG + CH.

With the SBR you can use the sweet UCIW stock
