It has taken me nearly a year, but the upper is nearly ready for a test fire!

I'm not all that sure what I am looking at, but it looks cool nonetheless. Details, man! Details!

It would make one hell of a steampunk build.

Sorry about the picture guys. And thanks for fixing and reposting. I'm not too great with computers. I was trying to text the wife for a fix but no go.
It's the only picture I have of the parts together. It's the nearly complete barreled upper with handguard. It has to be a pistol until I can prove the action. It has a 14.5in barrel. It was a simple idea that has consumed all my free time. "Put a folding stock on my new build"

I named it "the bastard". I tried to style the handguard as half&half, ar15/fn fal. It started as the cylinder from an aluminum pneumatic actuator. I will try to put up some pictures soon. Um... Speaking of which, can anyone tell me where I messed up with my first picture?

On your Photobucket page, click the link pic there, rather than below your post on this site.  Select the IMG option of the four options, it copies to the clipboard..  Paste that into your post on AR15.com.

Please tell us more about this?

Is this something different than DI?

Yeah.  When I read "folder", I was thinking lower (as is folding stock), so I'm really curious about what it means on your upper.

This isn't by chance Shervin Rezaiy?

Kawasaki master mechanic?  No?

If so, please help me fix my 2011 ZX-10r lol

No I'm not a Kawasaki tech. I can do regular maintenance on my 2valve desmo duck.

So, not trying to come off as a jerk. Why can't we just slap a folding stock on the ar15? The reciprocating parts that go into the receiver extension. This is my buffer-less upper. I have a modified law tactical folding stock mechanism to go with it. It's not exactly DI or a so called "piston" setup. It's kind of both. It has a hollow piston to vent gas to the bolt to aid in unlock. The action spring rides over the piston above the barrel. The was a guy on the forum the built a buffer-less pistol some time ago. I studied the thread, I got a lot of ideas from him.

It has a 14.5" barrel, so it will be a pistol until I can work out the kinks and weld the brake on. Then, I can mount the stock.

I was thinking and sketching for weeks before I worked up the nerve to take a hacksaw to my bolt carrier.

I wanted the advertised 100% increase in bearing surfaces and it's stainless so I didn't have to refinish the end I cut

Good reasons although I run my BCG so wet it should never rust!

So it's DI, w/ an extended gas tube, like our other illustrious user?  Does it take a standard charging handle?

The cocking tube with charging handle and cocking pieces

I more or less built the upper around a funky CH of my own. I had quite a bit of trouble with it. It's pretty much hideous and a little unsafe. So, that is my last real hurdle.

Didnt some company in the industry forum last year do this exact thing? I cant remember the name of them but they had folding stocks due to cutting the carrier and extending the gas tube all the way to the front of the handguard. Nt piston like yours but had a straight gas tube all the way forward?

Para did something similar with their DIGGS target rifle.  Either way awesome build in for updates.

You took a hacksaw to a JP?! Dude, buy a PSA BCG to cut in half.

I just wish I could afford a JP.

I kinda hate you a little bit right now...

I have been talking to RDTCU and working on designing a folding stock AR myself. I have the design 90% finalized on paper, was going to order the components for the gas key next month.
My plan used an HK inspired cocking tube and a non reciprocating charging handle that uses push rods to actuate the bolt.

Sorry, this is my most ambitious project. I would totally love to exchange ideas/notes. If you are game? At best, I could be considered a lowly mechanic. Maybe you know what you're doing a bit more than I...
