Who makes a light weight dissapator upper?
Link Posted: 9/18/2014 11:41:14 PM EDT

Do to want a true dissipator or one of those with 2 gas blocks that look like a dissipator?

True ones with government profile are hard to find.

Voodoos 16.5 ultra light with rifle gas is probably as close as you'll get.

Wow that barrel costs almost $400, I wonder if just getting a heavy barrel
turned down to a lightweight profile would be cheaper?

You can find that barrel for a bit under $250 if you look around a bit.

I did see that thanks, still a little on the high side
for just a barrel, or am I being too much of
a New Englander?

That's the lowest you'll find that barrel.  It's in line with what decent quality barrels run.

Can you get a A2 F marked front sight base installed
on a melonite barrel?

Yeah, it's doable.  Melonite is hard on tools, but the process itself isn't any different than any other barrel.

Any gunsmiths working with melonite barrels?
tried Adco and they will not put A2 a front sight
base on melonite barrels.

Make one! If you or your gunsmith has lathe skills, turn down a larger barrel.

I turned this from a DPMS 16" SS Bull barrel. The gas block area is .750 and the area in front of and behind
are .625. This thing started at 3.27 lbs. I pinned an A2 front sight in the rifle position for my A2 middy.

IMO..yes.  I like Palmetto but their track record with dissapator uppers has been spotty.  The Spike's uppers are solid built light and built right.

Check out Del-Ton.  There barrels are GTG and they make the dissy. All 6 of my builds run their barrels. Fit and finish is first class and they are surprisingly accurate

Emailed them last week and I was told
they no longer work on melonite  barrels.

Love my GMP, buy a quality barrel and have ADCO turn it down to a similar profile.  I like the faux dissipator myself because I can replace the lo-pro under the handguard with an adjustable gasblock.  If you don't already have a lower, a CAV-15 MKII is about a perfect match for a balanced, no frills, utility rifle.
