Took two of my most recent builds to the range last Friday. I'm used to 3.5 lb triggers on target pistols and the stock mil spec trigger kinda sucks. So I ordered two jp yellow spring kits. These are just range toys and I don't want to spend $300 on a trigger right now. I've read that some people bob the hammer to increase the speed to eliminate light strikes. I can understand how this can increase the speed but doesn't this also reduce the mass? Should I bob the hammer or not? I won't be shooting any steel ammo.

If your guns are running ok, no need to bob. Bob just lets a hammer with a stock spring move a little faster to help with steel case ammo.

I bobbed a hammer for a 5.45 build and its been flawless on 5.45 and 7.62x39. Wish I would have done it a couple years ago

The "kinda sucks" part gets better with use.  As the trigger, hammer and disconnector are used together, they get smoother, and soon much smoother.

One option is an ALG QMS trigger.  They list at $45 and are much smoother than a GI-style, stock trigger right out of the box.  For $65, there's ALG's ACT trigger, which is not only much smoother but feels a lot lighter as well.  Both are mechanically the same as a stock trigger, so swapping them out is a piece of cake.  Not a $300 feel, but you're not talking about a target rifle, but rather a "range toy," so a less creepy and extra heavy feeling trigger is going to feel great compared to your stock trigger, without your needing to modify any parts.
