I have built about 20 AR's over the last year. Some I am just getting around to firing for the first time. Today I have a failure to eject on a RCA BCG. The gun fires and bolt jumps back about 1/4" with no ejection of case.
Suspecting the BCG, I put in a known to function BCM BCG and everything is fine.
Question: anything I can do to check or possibly fix myself, or just return the BCG to Rubber City Armory?
Do you think the Crane O ring could cause this? I can remove it if this seems to be the culprit.
Any known issues with RCA BCG's ??? How are they to work with on making things right?

I know I can fix by simply buying another BCM BCG, however, I don't really need a $250 RCA paper-weight

You can remove the BCG from the gun and use a spent case to see if the case is hanging up in the bolt face by hooking the case under the extractor and pressing it into the ejector and then releasing it.

Is this one of there standard carriers or a light weight version?

Otherwise, have you isolated the problem to the carrier or the bolt? Tried swapping a different bolt into the carrier?

Have you checked to make sure there are no obstructions in the gas key?  Take the bolt out and run a pipe cleaner or something similar through the gas key to make sure the hole is free and clear.

I have yet to try the empty case trick, yet. Will do.
But, yes, I did put the BCM bolt in the RCA carrier - same failure to eject. So, things seem to point to the carrier - right?

OK. I will check. I guess I thought a brand new bolt carrier would have been checked for that. The only other thing I did check were that gas ring were randomly aligned. What about Cam pin - it seems to rotate fine and the lugs lock up and release well manually.

Forgot to mention, black nitride M16 full auto type BCG. Bought when first released - about March 2013. Fired for the first time today.

Anything made shortly after sandy hook and up until about september/october 2013 time frame is a range I prefer to avoid if/when at all possible.

way too many lemons made it through QC as manufacturers tried to keep up with demand.

I think I found one problem, I could not blow any air down the gas key. I will have to buy some pipe cleaners, but in the meantime, I probed the key carefully with a slightly bent and rubber-coated paper clip. I was able to pass it through and cleared an apparent obstruction. ( I know some manufactures - and I think RCA is one - use silicone sealant on the gas key). Possibly occluding passage. I can now blow a little air through, so guess I cleared it a bit. I will follow up with a pipe cleaner, reassemble and try shooting again.

If you are the original owner RCA has a "no questions asked" warranty. Return it.

Same problem others have had.

As posted above, just send it back.  They've remedied the issue with better QC and are replacing panic-frame parts that weren't up to par, gratis.

rascalious,

What a joke that they could have done that??? Putting silicone seal downthe gas key isn't necessary as far as I can tell.

I too recently bought one of there bolts for an end of the year build. I'm currently saving my money for a complete upper build at the Arizona show coming up in early December.

Good luck clearing the gas key. Keep us informed.

This is how hear-say starts because too many don't fact check. It's not silicone sealant, but Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket No. 3 Sealant the Colt TDP calls for.

I used to use Permatex all the time in the 60's and later to assemble stuff. I never would have considered silicone. I notice your drawing shows roll pins retaining the gas key screws, instead of staking. I have the same drawing, but may also have one a bit newer one with staking instead.

I misspoke when I said silicone, as I meant some kind of "sealant". Now I know - thanks.
