I used to use regular white lithium grease (which worked great), to, now, using automotive Mobil1 10w30 (cheap, use it on my cars anyway).works great too. Seriously... You could probably use any lube and it would still work fine.

Only grease I use is on the barrel nut when I install a barrel.  CLP works fine the rest of the time.

Mil-spec barrel assembly grease for the barrel nut, receiver extension, FS, and various roll pins.
XF-7 otherwise.

When you guys are talking about oil on parts, I assume we are talking about all the moving parts? Bcg, charging handle, trigger assembly?

I use a dab of high temp grease on the barrel nut-the Harbor Freight variety-works just fine for me . As far as the rest, I just use rem oil and follow this  LUBE POINTS

When I install a hammer and/or trigger, I put a dab of grease inside the pin bore for each part.  I never put any other grease in the lower or upper, ever - it tends to collect and hole crap that can cause problems and extra wear.  Picture something sticky like grease catching part of a blown primer...what sort of mischief could that cause?

Anyway, thin lubes for the working parts of an AR, only oils or "CLP-like" lubes.  I'm currently using Mobil 1 for most things.

In my experience XF-7 used according to the instructions does not collect crap.
I have used it for several years now and I have not seen any signs of abnormal wear.
Of course in the conditions I live in I probably could lay on the Lubriplate 130-A and not have a problem.
My typical usage is target shooting and hunting a person with a more serious use would be well advised to stick with what is known to work in a variety of conditions.
