3.   Bushmaster 14.5" M4 clone
4.   Delton/Spikes 16" M4 in progress
5.   Bushmaster left over parts, soon to be KISS Midlength or possibly retro-ish build
6.   CMMG - just blasted for FDE build
7.   CMMG - complete lower to be dedicated .22 build

My first post from across the pond. Hello there from bonny Scotland.

Thought Id post a few pics of what passes for an AR in the UK. Sadly we dont have anything that fires in full auto or even semi auto above .22LR (or below for that matter!). So we have to have some specially made receivers and bolt a cocking handle to the carrier assemblie. Its a bit slow and doesnt quite feel right, (a bit like alcohol free beer) but it does the job and lets us keep shooting.

Fitted with a 20" DPMS H profile 1 in 9 barrel, Im planning to get a second upper with something a bit different. Probably a heavier barrel and a 4 rail system. But I need to get the ok from the Police first. Sadly we cant own what we want we need permission for each and every gun. But not to worry you guys have given me some great ideas. Im sure I will be able to find what I want over here.

ETA: So you have 3 choices as to how you charge your funky British boltgun?

Firstly many thanks for the help

Yes there are 3 charging handles on this model. To be fair this is the only make that gives that option. Most only have the T handle, which is difficult if your using a scope or hot rounds. There are more starting to go with the right hand handle these days, which does away with any chance of a forward assist. But to date only one SLR style left hand handle (which I seldom use).

Tell you what now Ive seen some pics of my own gun, it needs a wee bit of TLC. I guess 10 years are a lot to ask. Its time for a face lift! And looking at all the pictures just in this thread, Im going to be spoilt for choice as far as design options are concerend!

With a reciprocating right-side charging handle, the handle IS your forward assist.  But you should never need it...

Quite right. And the only time I ever have to use it like that is when I let someone else use the gun who has never used one before and the slide the handle forward.

Mind you its handy having a great big handle like that when a hot case sticks!

So if it's a straight pull, have you thought about putting a cross piece on your right side charging handle?
Like on the Swiss K31?
Looks kinda weird at first, but it's pretty easy to get used to, and then it's very comfortable.

Yeah a stuck case could be a common problem i'm sure.  Most straight-pull bolt guns have a lever mechanism built into the bolt to break the case free with added leverage.  Regular bolt guns have a cam track to start extraction with mechanical advantage.  A bolt action AR is just straight-pull without any mechanical advantage...

I don't know if this was so much of a "build" as it was "heavily modifying" a bushmaster.  Here is the list of things I changed out:

YHM flat top up (originally had "classic" A2 upper with fixed carry handle)
Ergo Free Float Z Rail (not recommended )
Magpul RVG
Magpul XTM rail covers
Magpul rear BUIS
Magpul ACS stock
Magpul BAD lever
Magpul Trigger guard
Timney trigger
KNS pins
Ergo grip
BMC Gunfighter charging handle (mod 4)
Spikes heavy buffer
Noveske QD buffer tube plate
Eotech 512 (w/ gg&g covers)

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd245/trevoramestoy/AR15/Bushmaster1.jpg

The gun really turned into a little bit of a "mutt".  I am currently building (parts on order) a "purebred" Daniel Defense...I'll post pics when the parts arrive.

Finished my (wife's) lightweight a few days ago. During the same time, I built a left handed RECCE-type for me. The only way to have two ARs was to say it was for her. You know....lie like a log.

I don't know how much it weighs, but I beleive I did a good job. Both builds were from pre-bans, as I live behind enemy lines.

I started with a Colt Comp HBAR upper, lower and BCG
Spikes ST-T2 heavy buffer
Centurion Arms LW middy barrel and low-pro gas block
BattleComp 1.0
TRX Extreme in FDE
CTR stock in FDE
MIAD grip in FDE
Samson QRS BUIS

honestly i shot with my VFG in the same position in Iraq and it always served me well I'm kinda short and stocky so I have a real compressed shooting stance. That position is the most comfortable for me and thanks

Hey, if you've got all that stuff just sitting around, I wouldn't mind taking it off your hands. I'll even pay shipping!

I think those parts will eventually turn into another rifle; just not spontaneously like I was hoping.

during that portion of the training day i kept my handgun off intentionally, so i could focus on manipulating the ar and nothing else. (type 1,3 malfunctions) 2 hand, weapon hand only and reaction hand only.  If i had my handgun on i would have been transitioning every time. I didn't want to make a training scar by not transitioning to a handgun when i had on my side.

yeah i figured that you were. This was actually just one of my weekly training sessions (my first since returning from my third tour) and not a course. I have taken courses in the past though, and will continue to do so.
