Almost done! Waiting till I get out of Marine boot camp in December till I purchase my optics so I can get a nice discount...going with the Aimpoint Comp M4s. Also need guard rails, light, and a front grip. Polished internals are sooo nice!

Barrel is from JSE for $70- bucks that I’m very, very pleased with! http://www.jsesurplus.com/16inm4profilechromemoly1x9556-inthewhitespecial.aspx Stock is from the Home Depot (That’s why the project ran soooo darn long. It seems that the Home Depot only carries AR stocks in 1x6 maple board form!) And the front sight gas block started out run-of-the mill. It had a lot of ‘tweaking’ between the MIG and the grinder, believe me!…. The rest, besides the color palette changes via VHT, is off-the-shelf. But still, I had a whole lot of hours sunk into this project – the most of any AR that I’ve built to date… |

Overall this was rather inexpensive build – grand total I only have roughly $800 bucks sunk into it (including shipping it to a receiving FFL to my father in Arizona today)…
Both the upper and lower were painted and then baked at 250 degree for about an hour w/ VHT silicone ceramic brake caliper paint. This may sound a little weird and not very sexy, but VHT brake caliper paint, if applied correctly, makes for a very, very durable and attractive finish. http://www.vhtpaint.com/caliperpaint.html Anyway to answer your question… The upper is a TNW from Centerfire System ($69-): http://www.centerfiresystems.com/arup-a3stripped.aspx The lower is from Aim Surplus, a “Surplus Arms & Ammo – LOW15” ($59-): http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1SASL&groupid=53 |

Couple of updates to mine. Had to get a new barrel (long story, just don't buy ANYTHING from blackthorne). Picked up a DEZ Eliminator barrel and a DoubleStar Dragon compensator. Decided to put it together with my customized RIA (Kimber stainless upgrades, cocobolo grips and new sights) and get some new pics.

The two main "Oops’" in mine were my magazine’s button hole was a little "tilted" by 1 or 2 degrees (I think that’s ShARps / Delaware Machine’s claim to fame, because I think that Delaware Machine milled them all that way… Hmmm, Oops... ) and my buffer tube yoke hole was off-center, just slightly, but not enough to interfere w/ the bolt carrier’s travel up and down the tube… … I have to admit, I do gravitate towards the lesser known, and lesser priced, lowers because they can be somewhat idiosyncratic which makes them a little more fun and challenging to put together... Post more pics when you get your “non-Blackthorne” upper in and duracoated!… |
