I have a question about XM193. Just saw some at a decent price at Firearms For Sale (http://www.firearmsforsale.com/federal-cartridge-co/ammunition/xm-223-remington-5.56-nato-boat-tail-metal-case-55gr-20box-25case/) but I was concerned by the note regarding "XM" ammo.

Product Description:
The XM ammunition is Metric caliber ammo that is contract overrun material, It may not meet all of the mil-spec requirements, however, it does meet all requirements of commercial amunition for pressure, form, fit and function.

It was my understanding that this was all mil-spec ammo?

It doesn't meet MilSpec. It meets commercial spec just fine.

You shouldn't worry about buying, stockpiling and shooting lots of it.

M193 hasn't been used by US for many years.

That said, XM193 is produced for civilian sale and made to the old original mil-spec. Or so one can hope. All the "X" means is that it's for civilian sale.

It's great ammo, shoots surprisingly accurately for me, never had a problem. Probably 75% of my mags are stuffed with it.

I have shot around 3000 rounds of XM193 total dispersed through a Bushmaster 16" carbine with 1/9" twist, a Colt 20" HBAR with 1/7" twist and more recently a Palmetto State Armory 16" mid length with 1/7" twist with no malfunctions.  It has always performed well and has been accurate.  All XM193 that I own or have shot has been 06 and older head stamps.  I never used any that was newer than this.

Shot thousands of rounds of XM193 through good quality weapons...no (memorable) malfunctions that I can recall.
