So, having had an Uzi and still have a Colt 9mm arf...

I can (and do) use 9mm Uzi magazines with a notch cut in it for the magazine release in my 9mm Colt arf. 9mm Uzi magazines and 45ACP Uzi magazines have the same exterior dimensions...

Was thinking a guy could use the 45ACP Uzi magazines in a Colt style magazine block set-up rather than having a bunch of stuff welded onto the 45ACP Uzi magazine.

Yes no?

To that end, could the rear block be configured to have an ejector for the 45ACP in the lower tather than the Oly's upper?

Does anybody have Oly A3 16" .45ACP uppers in stock? I've got the CAV lower, Hahn block, heavy buffer, WOLF spring and GG mags ready to go.

Ranier Arms had some in stock and Oly had some just a few weeks ago.

The problem with this is the cost of Uzi .45 mags.  The 10 round mags run upwards of $80, and often into the over $100 range.  The 16 rounders I've seen go for upwards of $190 on GunBroker.

But if a 9mm Uzi mag and a .45 Uzi mag have the same exterior dimensions, is the follower the only difference?

Not sure but I imagine there are also differences in the feedlip spacing/configuration.

Anyone have both a 9 & 45 uzi mag and some calipers handy?

Have you called Oly directly? Because of the magazine situation, they don't build .45's, .40's, or 10mm uppers except to order. I got mine a week or three after calling just before Thanksgiving '07. There was a discount from the list price since I didn't get (or need) the standard mag which wasn't available anyhow. Oly was very cooperative, and since an upper isn't a firearm, it can be sent directly to you. IMPORTANT!!!! With the Cav Arms lower, you MUST use the Hahn pistol caliber buffer or the LOWER CAN CRACK!!!!  Use a carbine buffer spring.  Oly wil build a flat top or carry handle to your request.
It's a lot like shooting a .22lr upper, except for the effect downrange, LOTS of fun. Mine will only run 3 or 4 mags full before failing to eject reliably ( 90-120 rd). Cleaning makes the world right again. Runs with Blazer, Black Hills round nose lead factory reloads, Taurus 180grHP, and everything else I've fed it.Enjoy.

Ordered my A3 45 upper from Oly on 4/21. They said it should take about 3-4 weeks. Everything else is ready to go.

You're going to love your set up coyote3! I surely love mine. Same set up, Cav15 lower and an Oly A3 upper.

frog5215 brings up a good point. What heavy buffer are you using? I bought mine thru Slash. It's an incredibly heavy tungston unit. He advertises in EE.

BTW, Welcome aboard frog5215!

Is Slash Hahn?  I think it says Hahn on the buffer; I got it at the same time as the mag block from Brownells. Hey, at the Fort Worth Gun Show today I saw a complete Oly 9mm w/standard Oly lower go for $650 with 3 hi cap and one 10rd modified Sten mags, and a soft case.

I bought the combo deal from Slash, which includes the .45 ACP Heavy Buffer, a Hahn Precision mag block and a Wolff XP carbine spring.

Come on Oly!

No. Slash is not Hahn. His buffers are unmarked, iirc.

Yep, same combo I have.

Here's a pic of when I was sighting in my Aimpoint'

Top group is 25 yds. Bottom group is 25 ft. Somebody kick in the door to my apartment is going to be in serious trouble.

And with this zero I can also hit things very consitantly at the ~100yd mark too. Although there is a lot of hold over or under in between and further out.

It's a fun, fun gun!

No.  Slash is a member on this board, he does custom buffers for a number of platforms.  .45, 9mm, AR-10, etc.  His are stainless steel bodies with tungsten inserts.

Hahn Precision has several accessories for the AR-15s.  9mm mag blocks most notably.  Their pisotl buffers have steel carbon bodies.

I have one of Slash's 9mm Q buffers in my 9mm and Hahn's 45 buffer in my AR45.  The 9mm is something like 8.5oz.

IIRC Slash's 45 buffer is a hair longer and heavier than the Hahn.

All of these pistol buffers are longer than a standard CAR length buffer so don't use them in a .223 rifle.

Good luck, coyote3! Honestly. I ordered a .45 upper from Oly on 3/26/08. They told me they were out of .45 barrels and it should take 3-4 weeks (sound familiar?). I called them at the 3 week mark. No barrels. I called them at 4 weeks. No barrels. I called a few days later and was told that all parts were in and my upper would ship at the beginning of the next week. Monday, I didn't hear anything. Tuesday, I didn't hear anything. At 4:30 pm on Tuesday I called to see if it shipped and was told that no, it hadn't shipped because they were still waiting on barrels. WTF?! The guy at Oly couldn't even tell me when he expected more barrels. I went to the Rainier Arms website, saw them on their website and called them while I was looking at their website. They had them in-stock. I canceled the order with Oly, placed the order with Rainier, and Rainier Arms shipped the next day. It's en route and should be here Wednesday. Oly wasted about 5 or 6 weeks of my time. The guy I talked to at OlyArms seemed like he didn't really care if it ever shipped to me or not.

That's why I say: Good luck, coyote3. You may want to check Rainier Arms real quick to see if they still have some. The one I got was the .45 upper with the (A3) flat top.

In addition to their stock suppressors SRT Arms will make integral 9mm and 45acp uppers. The 45 upper I heard was damn quiet!

All that I have seen or read about ( including mine ) are Olympic uppers that SRT integrally suppressed. If he is making some other type of upper, it would be interesting to hear about.

When I had mine done several years ago, I just sent him my Olympic upper. Doug shortened, threaded, and ported the barrel and built an integral suppressor for it. I have been very happy with it.

OK I'm getting into this thread late and I've read all the way through and I'm not sure if I've missed this or not.  Is Cavalry Arms back in production on the MKII lowers or is their MKII production still shut down due to their issue with the BATFE?

As of now, CavArms still can't make lowers.

You need to check around, there are some FFL's that still have some. I got mine from Allan at Machine gun Tours about two months ago. AT THAT TIME, he said that he had "a few blue lowers and a bunch of OD green lowers". I wanted an OD one anyway, so I lucked out and got what I wanted. I don't know if he still has any; but if you go to the above website, get the phone#, and give him a call, he'll let you know. He's in Colorado. Great guy to deal with, by the way. Communicated with me every step of the way, shipped the day he got the FFL faxed over. Allan is a very good guy!

If he doesn't have any left, I don't where else to check. Just look around.

Hope it helps.

Has anyone shot lead round-nose ammo through their Oly .45 upper? Just wondering about feeding and accuracy.
Link Posted: 5/15/2008 3:23:49 PM EDT

I ran one box of 50 reloads using a lead round nose bullet thru mine. Fed and functioned flawlessly. I haven't had enough time lately to load up and shoot anymore than that. 50 rounds isn't much but it's looking good so far.

+1 with Alan at MachinegunTours. He's the one I bought my lower from. Last I knew, a couple weeks ago or so, he still had some lowers on hand. So he may still have some if you're looking.

APG Arms (apg.com) in Tempe offer "CAV Aid " MKIIs for  $125 stripped.

My OLY CAV .45 runs 230 RNL just fine. Hits the 8" plate at 50M every time, no bench data though.

My OLY upper will operate with any 45ACP loading I've tried.
I tend to feed it mostly 200 grain round nose wadcutters. (I use them also in my 1911.)

Been keeping in touch with OLYARMS and they still haven't given me a date for the full body pistol caliber mags in development.

Oly .45 uppers handle .45 Super quite nice as well. Recoil is a little more stout and report is much louder.

Will GG mags handle .45 Super?  I'm not familiar enough with it to know just how much longer (if any) the .45 Super is.
Link Posted: 5/21/2008 1:40:35 PM EDT
[Last Edit: TANGOCHASER] [#34]
.45 Super is the same size as .45 ACP but the brass is thicker at the base and it is loaded very hot. Some loads are as high as 1400fps. That's out of a 5" barrel. Imagine what it will do from a 10"-16" barrel. They work great out of GG mags.

I wonder if Tangochaser could suggest a lube regimen for my Cav/Oly. I've been running it pretty dry, some Hornady One Shot with a little grease on the ejector groove. Starts failing to eject somewhere in the 4th (30rd) mag.
Thanks

Either soaking wet with Breakfree or Remington Dry Lube. I really like the Rem Dry Lube. It is a teflon coating and cleans up very well. I used it in Iraq with no other lube and it was fantastic. I'm seriously looking at a coating like NP3, Ion Bond, or something else that is slick and easy to clean.

I recommend a heavy buffer and heavy buffer spring even with a standard lower. Keeping the bolt in battery a little longer sends more carbon down the barrel instead of all over the top of the mag and bolt carrier assembly.

That's pretty sweet. I was looking in to either building one in .45 or the cx4 storm.  I ended up ordering a Mac 10 carbine with the ar-15 handguards.  The only drawback I can see might be the weight.  It's a chunk.

Well this really sucks. On 5-18 I placed an order with Midway for an Olympic 45acp upper, which was immediately placed on backorder with anticipated delivery on or around 7-28. For the rest of my project, I found a Cavalry Arms lower from another board member here. I picked up 12 grease gun mags, my hahn buffer and mag well adapter.  Today I got notified by Midway that they were cancelling the order for my upper due to Olympic's failure to deliver. Anyone have any leads on 45 uppers?
Is Oly still taking orders direct or are they on hold as well?
