How about we start our new A2 Rifle forum with a photo thread?
SouthpawShooter  [Team Member]
Hey all!

Thought I'd check in and add my A2's to the mix!

Here we have my 16 in (really a 14.5 with perm muzzle brake) A2- Bushmaster Lower- American Spirit Arms upper
This was purchased in the '90s before the Cali ban went into effect. Since it was post '94, it's a "post ban" upper. No bayonet lug and
perm muzzle brake instead of "flash hider".

Next we have a shot with my 20 in 7.62 A2 upper on the same Bushy lower.

Here is an alternate view. Sorry for the crappy pics. These are just iPhone pics. Will take more with a "real" camera soon.

Nightshade, thanks for pointing that out.

I guess I need to brush up on knowing what I'm talking about before I speak.

I'm new to this online gun porn stuff, but I'm getting better at it.

I have removed my half-a**ed A2/crossed with I have no freaking clue picture.

No offense man, but no front sight tower and no fixed carry handle means it's not an A2. And I'd be careful too, cutting-up a SP1 like that will inflame emotions around here.

This is a picture of my A2:

Notice the fixed carry handle with the drum-adjustable rear sight?

That is the defining characteristic of an A2.

If a rifle has that feature, it is an A2.

If it does not, it is not an A2.

Your rifle is neat but it is not an A2.
nzar15  [Member]
it was an a2 origionally but i like to be origional unlike all the bolt on ar15 builds i see each and every day
dont hate people for being different

Different I'll give you that.... What's the barrel? What kind of groups are you getting?

....

Actually, that is incorrect. Plenty of A2s without those sights. A2 designation represented a number of changes, HBAR, sights, handguards, grip, stock... and a combination of any of those got the A2 designation. Plenty of Colt a2 sporters out there with a1 style sights. And if you have a mil background, you might argue the 1 in 7 twist rate for M855 ammo was and is the only real A2 characteristic –– aside from 3 round burst but that was not available to us civis so doesnt really count. And this is a pic thread, so let us keep it light and see more A2 and A2 variant pics.

If it has A1 sights, then it's probably an A1....

A2 would be 1:7, adjustable drum rear at a minimum. Furniture has nothing to do with it.

Having Corvette seats in my Chrysler doesn't make it a Corvette. Having a Corvette motor and tranny is kind of required to be convincing....

You are wrong. Please don't start an argument in the pic thread. Page 2 of this thread shows a Colt advertisement for the A2 with A1 sights...start there and do your homework. This has been well covered before so you should have no problem finding it. Bushy, Colt and others had plenty of A2 models sans the 'a2 drum sight.' If you're still wondering, start a forum post and leave the pics for here.

Is this it?

Technically, interim versions notwithstanding, A2 specs generally call for the fixed handle A2 upper receiver with its A2-specific A2 rear sights, the A2 reinforced lower receiver with A2 style pistol grip and the longer A2 buttstock, the 20" Gov't profile 1:7 barrel with the square front sight post, the A2 style ribbed handguard, and of course the military 3-shot burst fire control group.

In my opinion, the intent of this picture thread is for members to share pics of their A2 style weapons, whether they completely match said specs or not. Flat tops do NOT qualify, even with an A2 style removable carry handle. Chopped A1s do not qualify at all, even if they "used to be" A2s.

Sorry, but I think the general spirit of this thread is to include pics of weapons with fixed carry handles and A2-type rear sights. No need to turn it into a pissing match; I think it is pretty clear as to what is expected.

WHO started an argument in the picture thread? Yes we all know that there are some rare and oddball variants, but the rifle I was actually referring to in that post was definitely not an A2. I think it's been pretty well established in this very forum that the fixed-carry-handle upper receiver with drum-adjustable target sights is what primarily characterizes an A2. Now please stop threadcrapping.

PICTURE THREAD.

Here's dad shooting an A2 (the mutt in my avatar) for the first time in many years. It was REALLY COLD that day and the rifle ran 100%.

Slow your roll, bud. No one's "arguing."

Here's a build I did of an FNMI 1:7 barrel and Colt A1 receiver:

I'll let the general consensus determine what they think, but to me this is still an A1 build, and *not* an A2. It will stabilize M885, yes. However, I can't maximize that round anyway if I don' have an 800 meter adjustable sight that *only* the A2 has.

It has an A2 grip and hand guards, but an A1 length stock, it's indeed a bastard design. However, at the end of the day, it's not going to do the same things I can do with a true A2 rear sight. In all, this is simply an A1 that I can shoot M885 out of.

A picture of me in my Iraq deployment 07-09. It was a quick pic before we rolled out so I got my gear and stuff all fumbled together quickly. It was an FN M16 for those curious about it.

M16 and M16A2 clones.

I know I am a little off but I love the M16 with fixed bayonet!

The cut down carry handle profile looks like it was an A1 upper, too.

It probably belonged to that slab-side Sporter lower there.

Why? Why, man, why?!

Many moons ago there was no such thing as a flat top upper. We had to roll our own.

A piston A2? Or am I interpreting that incorrectly?
