the scar never really floated my boat, it was a nice rifle, accurate and functioned 100% over the 3000 rounds i feed it but just couldnt get use to the muzzle rise.

but this LW is a pretty cool rifle actually if your a lefty as i am. never thought much of the full ambi controls but the bolt release on the right side is the cat ass. i might have a hard time going back to my other AR lowers. especially when your doing mag change drills, i feel like a right handed rifleman now!

accuracy was good for using the reflex sight whch is a NOT small dot in full sun!   i got 1.5" groups at 50yds with 62gr gold dots and mk318 mod0 ammo.

i changed out the carbine H2 buffer as it was a little snappy but typical for a piston for a vltor A5 with H1 buffer. thier factory NiB trigger was pretty good but it got yanked for the G single stage.

it sure feels lighter than the M6A3 16" i had too. guess its the rail and fluting?

A friend has one of those in a bronze color.  Surprising how the shorter pinned barrel is actually pleasantly noticeable in how it affects balance and handling.  Nice model.

i agree. i have a couple 12.5" SBR's and this one feels alot like those in swinging between targets. definetly more snappy in recoil than DI uppers. the A5 should tame that. it did in my LWRC M6A3 18" DMR upper.

Nice, good trade in my opinion.

Great rifle!

I'd love to hear some feedback on the lighter buffer.

I've tried a few different buffers behind an LWRC upper and havent found that sweet spot yet.

With the Vltor A5, do you have to use their tube to use their different buffers?

I got an M6A2-S model complete upper last year from CDNN, and it came with its own buffer and spring separately.  However, it looks like a normal carbine buffer and length spring...nothing special.

Yes, the VLTOR A5 requires the use of the VLTOR A5 buffer and a rifle spring. You cannot use the VLTOR A5 buffer in a traditional carbine buffer tube.

the vltor A5 H1 buffer is nearly identical to a carbine H2....

Weights for the A5 buffers
A5H0: 3.80oz
A5H1: 4.56oz
A5H2: 5.33oz
A5H3: 6.08oz
A5H4: 6.83oz

i'll be going out again this week so i'll report back but in my LWRC 18" m6a3 upper i use an vltor a5 system with thier H2 although, that upper has a different impulse that this one. dwell time and port size differences obviously but the A5 seems to help smooth out the carrier speed. the carbine buffer tube is just too short for my liking.

Thanks!

My M16a2 came with a spring and an H2 buffer, hardly noticed any difference with the H1 buffer.

And my JP wouldn't lock the bolt back. But to be fair I was getting the same issue and light strikes with the JP on a DI upper.  Need to try some different springs.

What is this SCAR 16 muzzle rise you speak of?

Seriously though, were you running it with the stock PWS brake?  Nice LWRC btw, love the spiral fluted barrel.

i know...LOL

i took that FN blast enhancer off, couldn't stand that noise but it did tame the muzzle rise from that massive BCG it uses.  guess i'm just too use to the AR gentle push back, been shooting them for a long time now.

Nice rifle.  I have the same in FDE.  It joined the other 4 LWRCs I have...  I've owned a lot of ARs...but the Ldubs are works of art that all run like sewing machines.

Regarding your optic...does the aiming point wash out in bright sun?  Whats the issue?  One of my Ldubs has an 3.5x Acog another has an Eotech set up for night work, another has a Sparc 2.  Need one more.....something.  -grin

oh no.....outside in day light is where they are best. they will wash out if you are in a shadow and the fiber optic isn't getting any light AND looking into a lit area. guess that's what flippy irons are for.

i'm not 100% sold on the reflex sights but it was all i had available to put on it. i guess the upside to them it they dont need batteries but they are also poor performers inside a house.

finally got a chance to shoot and used the vltor A5 buffer tube and an H1 weighted buffer. definetly took the snap out of the rifle. still not DI smooth but better. need to get and A5 H2 buffer and try that.

I love the LWRC SPRs but I have one complaint the muzzle device. I just can't stand that damn pinging sound. I ended up swapping it out on my 16" SPR and on my REPR while I was at it. It was an easy way to dump $300.

update on the A5 buffer i've been using.....

i started out with an A5H1 weight and it was a little light. moved the the H2 and that helped reduce the carrier impulse quite a bit. i finally got an H3 buffer and that has made this little beast feel more like a DI gun. i've felt that the LW piston uppers are over gassed. especially since i had an M6A3 16" once that was really bad so i had it cut back to 12.5" and never touched the gas port. it was a pussy cat after that and would run anything.

I run one and yes, you need to use their buffer tube (basically a modified rifle length tube with the spacer removed to shorter it up) and their proprietary length buffer.
A standard rifle length spring is used in the tube though.

that's not an accurate answer.

the vltor a5 is not anything modified. it is its own creature and the length is inbetween the carbine and rifle. that spacer you mentioned on the rifle length is only on the outside of the tube for using an A2 butt stock. has nothing to do with the innards.

i suppose you could use a carbine buffer if you had to in a pinch but most definetly CAN NOT use a rifle buffer.

another buffer weight update...

i had an A5H4 super heavy buffer that i needed to try in this rifle. the H3 was a much needed improvement in taming recoil. i tried the H4 out this weekend and its perfect now. even will 223 powered cycles and floating the rilfe in the air without a shoulder behind it cycles fine and locks back?

over gas much LWRC? lol...
