Weather finally cooperated and I went to the range and shot 200 rounds thru my new Hk 556 yesterday.

I can't believe how clean the bolt carrier and upper receiver was when i cleaned it.  Just a small amount of carbon on the bolt face it hardly need to be clean.  My impingement AR I have to scrape/soak the carbon off the bolt carrier.  The piston system wasn't even that bad to clean either.  I just went to the gun shop and got a POF P308 AR piston rifle.
Can't wait to see how this one is to clean.  It has the np3 finish on the recievers and bolt carrier.

Hey, same feeling I get when I shoot my SIG 556R.

I shoot it, bring it home, pop it open, runs some patches/brush/patches down the barrel, wipe off the bolt face, put a drop or two of lube on the internal parts, put it back together and wipe it down before putting it back in the case.

I shoot one of the AR15's, side by side, sometimes same number of rounds, bring it home and have to remove the bolt, patch/brush/patch the barrel and lay it aside.  Oil the internal parts in the lower.  Then I start disassembling the bolt/carrier and working to get all that crud out of it.

I must be a glutton for punishment as I've put four more of the dirty bastards together since May 2015.  Shoot have taken the newest one out today but got busy doing other stuff.

Those gas piston guns sure are sweet when it comes time for cleaning.

Piston is a thing of beauty.  Mt first German piston is a G43 from 1944.

Nice rifles.
Bought a LWRC about 4 years ago. The piston guns are such a joy to clean.

Only 200rds?

Only piston gun I've owned to date was an M1A. Cleaning time is bonding time.

Plus, i love the smell of all the gunk in my uppers. I wonder if it's less with a piston AR?
