Been looking forward to changing over my Adams Arms system on my SBR to the Syrac piston system. About 6 ounces in weight savings.
Ordered everything during Black Friday and everything showed up by this Friday.
So today I tore down the SBR and started building up the upper with the SLR Solo Lite and Syrac piston system.
Removed the Magpul handguards and AA piston gas block and related parts. Started with the SLR barrel nut - easy. Positioned the Syrac carbine gas block - easy.
Slid on the rail - nope.
Found out a few things.
Yes the Syrac is compact but it has 3 side mount Allen bolts. They stick out.

The SLR rail has a machined area where is mounts to the barrel nut but is stops and does not go all the way forward. The bolt heads catch on this area.

If you remove the bolts - you can just get the handguard over the gas block but no way to remount the bolts.

The top is very snug and needs more clearance. If there was more clearance perhaps the gas block would actually fit?

So I had to breakdown the wife's rifle and steal the MI rail - it fits but the rail was too long for the 11" barrel so broke out a 10" UTG Pro. It is machined differently and has more clearance on top and is slightly wider in internal diameter.

So the wife gets the lighter SLR handguard for the rifle she never shoots. I settled for the UTG Pro - made in Michigan but it is a tad heavier than the SLR and more involved to install.
The SLR system is simple and easy.
The Syrac gas block is what it is - light weight but you need to check carefully to make sure it fits.
As soon as I get a 51T for the front - I plan to take the Syrac rifle out and see how it works.
Nothing was wrong with the Adams Arms system - ran great and never failed me the 3 times I found the opportunity to shoot it. Just have been looking for weight reduction - and as part of this also installed the LWRC ultra compact carbine stock system. Need a riser for the ADM mount also.

Well, I am screwed I just ordered a SLR SOLO series mlok and a superlative arms piston kit. I called myself trying to research it before hand but could not find anything, also SLR didnt have an answer for me.

You might try using Low Head Allen Cap Screws. Head is 1/2 the height of a regular Allen Head Cap Screws.

They are made to be used in situations as yours, when the regular head interferes due to it's height
They can be purchased at most industrial supply houses.

The actual name is Low Head Socket Head Cap Screws

I use them all the time in my job as a Maintenance Machine Repairman

If you can tell the thread pitch size, I'll see if I have them in stock, and send you some.

My employer waists more everyday more than the cost of these screws.

I'm looking for a number such as; 10/32 x1/2, if metric; 4mm-.07 x 12mm.
Just need the actual size they are using.

IM me the info, and I will check tonight when I'm at work.
Plus a bolt supply house is 1/2 mile down the road from us. I can get any size you need.

Who is SLR? You guys need to spell things out, not everybody can read all this alphabet stuff...

Those shallow head bolts might work.

I had similar problem fitting a Giessele Mk 8 rail over a Syrac adjustable gas block. The socket head cap screws supplied with the gas block interfered slightly with the rail. I ended up using alloy button head screws instead. Worked fine. Tight, but no interference. The button head screws would give a bit more clearance than even the low head screws mentioned earlier. Use alloy screws, not the mild steel screws typically available at the "big box" building centers. Threads are not metric on the gas block. Not sure about the piston block. Vic

The companies name is SLR rifleworks. I spoke with SLR today and they said that it should fit based off the internal dimensions of the rail and the dimensions of the piston kit. I may still need to get some of those screws just in case. im not sure the thread pitch.

Don't think the wife will know if I get around to changing things again.

Spoke with Superlative and SLR, stated that the clamp style block may have trouble but the set screw style should not. You should contact tony russo at superlative and he may be able to help you out!!!!

Also found out that Superlative recently acquired one of BCM's top machinist who was responsible for the KMR and that the superlative is actually a machine shop, Good to know that kind of man power is behind their product.

Over the past two weeks I found this out the hard way also with my ALG EMR V3.

Looking at the ID of the rail and the dimensions of the gas block on Superlative Arm's website, the gas block does indeed fit inside the handguard; however, once the gas block is installed on the barrel, the upper portion of the gas block needs more room to clear the upper channel of the handguard.

The top of the Superlative gas block needs slightly more room to fit under the ALG EMR V3, otherwise it interferes with the top of the rail to the point where you cannot install the handguard over the barrel nut.  I was looking at the way the top portion of the EMR is machined and it is noticeably thicker than the rails that are known to work with the Syrac/Superlative piston.  The BCM KMR, UTG Pro, and MI handguards all seem to have more room in the upper channel of the rail whereas the EMR doesn't have as much room.  I've tried both the clamp-on and the set screw (solid) gas blocks and both are slightly too high to work with the ALG EMR without taking a file to the EMR (which I do not want to do).

It's a shame because the ALG barrel nut has a nice channel that the piston rod sits in and would have been perfect...I also really like the profile and feel.  I'm probably going to end up with a MI rail for this build.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully I have some luck. Definitely should give some feedback about their system, maybe they can start building them with a little less metal on the top section

Yup, I sent this same info to Tony and currently looking at MI G-3 M-Series M-Lok for my build...anyone need a lightly used ALG EMR V3?
