I have an Adams Arms XLP piston conversion on my A3 upper. Not sure about other brands, but I know it works AA works fine with them. Others can chime in about the other brands.
With the AA kit there is an insert that goes were the gas tube meets the upper that changes the size to work with the piston. |

Not sure what an "A3" upper may be unless you mean a flat top upper. Flat top upper appears on the M16A4 (alpha 4) -- the M16A3 has the fixed handle and a return to SAFE-SEMI-AUTO -- and the M4A1 (alpha 1).
Regardless of this trivia  , the gas systems are identical across the line and if the gas tube fits the Osprey fits. Handguard clearance is usually the issue. And, of course, where the glass block/front sight tower is on the barrel.

Osprey 416 in my opinion the best drop in and better than some purpose built piston rod systems.No permanent mods and no springs or valves very simple robust design with no tilt
