My local dealer will have large order of POF Minuteman rifles coming in from Accusport.  Price is 1399.  I don't know much about POF, but have heard mixed reviews.  Thinking of trading my Colt 9mm AR in on it.  What are everyone's thoughts on this rifle, reliability and overall fit and finish?  Is this a good price?  Thanks guys!

The opinions vary on POF ranging from really poor, to very bad, to decent or "I've never had any problems with them or their service" so take what you hear with a grain of salt. Me personally I never seen / used / or owned the newer current gen POF's but have had no problems with my early 7" PDW uppers both in full auto and semi auto. I've also never had any issues as of current in working with their customer service as both Cody and Jeremy has always took care of me when I needed or wanted something done so for me their earlier models, as well as their customer service has been perfectly fine. What others have said would be their personal take but me personally all is well with them.

I have an LWRCI M6-SL which is comparable to the Minuteman Puritan, from what I've read.  I like the front picatinny gas block vs. the A frame front sight on the S-L.  I'm also really looking at this system.  My former POF, a 14.5" carbine, was an excellent performer and I wouldn't have any reservations purchasing the Puritan complete weapon or just the upper.

I have owned several POF rifles - currently own 2 - P415 and P308.  I personally have never experienced an operating issue with them - they have been flawless.  The only issue I have ever had, was the top rail on 1 was a little out of spec - more narrow moving up the barrel - and the scope mount would not fit snug.  Called support, shipped the upper in and POF completely replaced within 3 weeks..  I use my P308 as my deer hunting rifle of choice now - and has never failed me.   They are great rifles IMO.

Pass, there are other, better, AR rifles out there.  POF won't back their product.

Evidently you don't own a POF. Therefore you have no experience with how they back up their product.

From your prior POF experiences and ownership, What are the other "better" AR rifles are you referring to and how are they better?

I have several.  They have been great rifles and uppers.

I have a POF P415 with 14.5 inch barrel. Excellent fit and finish. Great looking rifle. "I" think it is one of the better built AR's out there. I saw the Puritan several weeks ago and it looks to very built as well. A cheaper way to get into a Piston AR just without all of the bells and whistles than the higher priced models. Looks to be a decent rifle with the POF build quality at a reasonable price. If you pick one up post your impressions of it here.

Cabela's shows what appears to be a Puritan on their site but the description says "Minuteman". POF USA shows the "Minuteman" as the .308 model. The Puritan is their new entry level piston rifle.

Which model (caliber) are you referring to?

Actually, you have the vast majority of the POF rifles out there being outstanding rifles with NO issues.

Then you have a few that end up on ARFCOM.

My experience with POF customer service has been outstanding as has many people's exerience.  Most just do not post their good experiences on ARFCOM.

I do not know why these guys had issues.  But the majority do not.

The majority are probably fine or the doors would have been locked years ago (I guess). Most bad experiences I've read about, seen, and my own are about the 308 rifles. I got the same (maybe worse) red headed step-child treatment from pof. Hell will freeze over before they ever see a plug nickel from me.

Anyone asks me about it? FPOF, sell you a turd and leave you hanging.

I currently own 3 POF rifles and im waiting on my 4th to arrive at my ffl next week. I have never had a major issue with any of them. My early gen 3 p415 with predator rail experianced one failure. The retaining ring on the spring for the gas plug broke. Called up the guys at POF  and explained the issue, explained that i bought the rifle used. They said no problem, asked me to cover shipping one way to them thats it, they covered the repair at no cost , covered the return shipping, and even sent it back to me in a nice pof marked hard case at no charge and uppraded my charging handle. My second p415 is a new burnt bronze 14.5" model and runs flawless. The fit and finish is much nicer than my eary model, not that there was any issue on the early one. My third is a16.5" p308. Shoots sub-moa all day right out of the box with 0 issues. Liked it so much i bought a newer 14.5" p308 that should arrive next week.  Secondly last fall i got the oppertunity to travel to Pheniox with a friend of mine.  While i was there i got to tour the POF facility and meet the owner and his staff. The quality they put into their rifles is amazing. I wouldnt hesitate to buy one of their rifles. If you find that you have an issue which could always happen simply give them a call and ask them to help you out.

Ask 'em why SirJefferson STILL does not have satisfaction? Like myself, all he's gotten is the runaround.

Yes I am sure you can find a few folks out there who have had a bad experience with POF, but, you can also find a few folks who have had a bad experience with any manufacturer....  I got the run around a couple years ago from Ruger on a SR-556 - in which was eventually fully replaced after sending it back 3 times..  Does that mean I will never buy another Ruger ,, NO ..  Will I go around and tell everybody to PASS on a SR-556 or any Ruger, NO..    POF created their own design and product, I think they have done a good job over the years on continually making the product better.  As any newer / growing /  upcoming company or new design, I believe they have experienced some growing pains and possibly some QC issues here and there as is expected.  I would say more than a vast majority of POF rifle owners are happy with their product and service, I know that I am 100% satisified - they have proven to me to be a good, reliable product - and yes I was one who received, IMO, good customer service.  It just seems to me, maybe just me, that when a new product or company is introduced, you will see on youtube, arfcom or whatever, people jumping on every malfunction or a rogue machine mark on a receiver, or no e-mail or call back within 4 hours :) .  Sorry to blabber on, but, I like to encourage and invest in american ingenuity and Made in USA products - and yes I would purchase another POF product with no hesitation...  Now on to my next beer....

I have owned a POF and I am intimately familiar with the platform both .308 and 5.56.  The .308 is a waste of time, way too many issues.  Plus, POF is less than stellar in their customer service area.  If the owner had not belittled me, insulted me, and ignored me for about 6 weeks while I was trying to get him to fix my rifle that should never have made it through the QC process in the first place, then I would not be typing this today.  When it comes to POF, the owner loves to take your money, but if you have an issue with his product, then he has better things to do than fix his problems.  When it takes a courtesy call from the ATF to get him to return the several voice-mails left for him for over a week and a half, then there is most certainly an issue.  In the spirit of cooperation, I gave Frank several chances to make that situation right.  After all, he had my rifle....  He snubbed me at every chance, so until the day he apologizes for being a condescending arrogant prick, I will never have anything positive to say about him or his company.

The 5.56 version of the platform, (Hogan) was always spot on as far as shooting and never gave a malfunction.  With that being said, it's not worth the cost of the rifle.  The rail is way to high resulting in one having to add a cheek riser to get a decent sight picture.  It's WAY to heavy.  There are so many other AR manufacturers out there that offer a superior product for less money.  If you want a piston driven precision rifle, try a PWS, an LWRC IC, an Adcor, an AA.  They are all so much better and much lighter than a POF.  Plus, if you did for some reason have an issue which required the manufacturers assistance, at least they will give a rip and get you taken care of.

It's happened to many times, I'm not the only one with a really bad experience. The red headed step-child treatment. There are WAY to many great manufacturers with OUTSTANDING CS to put up with a-holes.

My POF is pretty much like I bought it. Shoots amazing with good ammo.

I dealt with POF customer service twice over the years and my buddy just dealt with them last month.  We both found it easy to get through to a service tech and our problems were solved in a timely manner.  No complaints.

As far as the minuteman, I would continue saving and get the bells and whistles of the 415. The ambi controls make for fast drills and the bolt hold open plunger inside the trigger guard on the Gen4 is real nice.

If you can get a deal like that I would not pass it up! That is an awesome deal!!!

For $1400, I would be willing to take the risk despite POF's checkered customer service record.

Even if you received a skunk or you find it isn't for you, you'll easily be able to resell and get your money out of it and probably profit in the process.

I like my Puritan, got it a month or so ago, just now got around to shooting it. I changed the hand guard, stock and grip on it. It  has performed flawless so far, around 250 rnds downrange, little bit of everything from Wolf steel case to premium stuff, 55 grain to 75 grain, all functioned perfect. My only complaint is the hand guard I put on (DD) took a little modifying to clear the piston assembly at the front. It is not a 415- but it is lighter and lower priced.
