I saw a complete Adams Arms piston rifle on the cheap.  Are they any good?

How cheap 599?

Yes they are awesome, reviews on here and Buds have been magnanimous. The charging handle and handguard needs replaced but the barrels are voodoo melonited and the receivers are mil spec. Otherwise it's a standard milspec rifle with a same plane gas block and a high end piston system/bcg, for the price of a low end Smith. The gas block is pinned and very hard to remove(good thing, really).

For 599, they're hard to beat as a novelty gun. I wouldn't recommend it over DI for a first time buyer though. If it's your 3rd+ AR, go for it.

This thread will probably get moved over to the piston forums though. Other owners have some reviews over there. The Customer Service form AA is great, and it's a lifetime warranty on those guns.

ETA: If you can build a PSA CHF for the same prices, which is what I would recommend first. The gun is solid, but it's hard to get as solid as a PSA for that price. That said, the BCG on the AA is something to behold.

If going piston, them or CMMG are the most reputable.  It's a nice simple system and you'll notice far less crud in your upper.

Good to go in my book.  The ones to avoid are retro fit kits.

For $599 at Buds you can't beat it...just the piston system alone cost half that in today's market.

How are you defining this and how are you validating this?

$600 for a good piston upper let alone a whole rifle is crazy low.  Good chance it will be in the safe very soon.

Thanks,

I did a few builds, when they first came out, strickly as a conversion kit , a few years back.  I did both  full length rifle, and carbine versions and have been very happy with them

I have the AA 599 Bud's special.  It is supposed to be a "cosmetic blemish," but I'll be danged if I can find an obvious blemish.  Shoots like a champ!  Shipping took a tad too long.

The AA system is very good.  They should have come out of the gate more expensive as bit $$ equates quality in the shopper mind

Are you refering to the AA retrofit kits, or other brands retrofit kits? I have an XLP gas block and pisto system in my rifle that was a conversion kit that I had Adams Arms install for me. Shoots like a champ.

The above are very reputable, but the PWS, LMT, LWRC and POF systems, to name a few, are reputable as well!

AA is good to go.  If you have an issue and you contact them, just be patient.  They will get to you, they are known for having a great product, not for being fast about it.  Sorry, just being honest......

****Avoid Buds....  If you order a blem, thoroughly inspect it prior to doing the 4473.  This way, if there's an issue, you can refuse it and send it back.  Don't expect any cooperation from Buds.  Their customer service is horrendous and their warranty is a joke.
