Have any issues been noticed or caused by rattle canning your piston guns? IM just curious. Thinking about busting out the old can on my gun

Nope.  Bunch a painted LWRCs over here ('stan).

I wouldn't coat the piston/cup area with paint; a light overspray (through the rail) isn't going to hurt anything.  You could pop the piston out while painting to be safe.

I did this REPR with Duracoat.  Stripped it completely down and masked it pretty well, no issues.
