After a while of staring at this carbine in an almost correct configuration I coudn't stand it any longer.

Sent the stock to JB for powder coat. Got a delta ring, and refinished the deltaring, buffer tube, trigger guard, and upper in matte grey rustoleum primer (for now).

Its as close as I'll ever get until I can send the upper along with some other parts to get re-anodized.

Big thanks to everyone here for answering all my questions!

Its a Double Star 1/9 that was cut down and pinned by JT. The moderator is Bricks.

John also shaved the bayonet lug and milled of the casting lines on the FSB, then reparked the whole thing. Fantastic work!

Yes the stock body itself and the lever are powder coated. JBowles did the work.

I've never seen a real one with the vinyl acetate finish in person but in pictures it looks just like mine. Its a great alternative.

Yah good choice for a barrel you can run both green tip 62 grains as well as retro M193 55 grains. All the while looking retro!

It was also the least expensive pencil barrel with carbine gas I could find at the time.

Not a biggie, but the front sling swivel should be attached to the front sight base via a steel roll pin, not a rivet.  Here is a pic of my Colt 639 front end below a Kuehl .22lr upper:

An M16A1 Carbine over a Colt 639, just for comparison's sake:

Devil is in the details as they say. I think I actually have a roll pin somewhere. Good catch!

You aren't the only one.  A while back I took a look at a Troy XM and GAU.  Not only were their front sling swivels rivet attached, but they also used the incorrect buffer extension tube castle nuts.  And, they're supposed to be experienced experts.

What size roll pin is correct?
