Yes, I know it ain't a retro upper, but I'm not going for a 100% retro build. Anyone know if this upper:

Is compatible with A1 triangular handguards?

should be good to go.  sometimes HBARs or gas blocks on dissipators under the handguards will require some fitting but gov't profile is good to go.

The upper assembly you are looking at should accept the triangle handguards with no problem at all since it has a gov. profile barrel and a triangle front end cap.  Should end up looking just like the flat top upper on a modern/retro-ish styled rifle which I have pictured below:
