First issue AF 601 manual for pdf download, August 30 1963. Cleaned up pages 2-4 and 2-6. For some reason the first time I added the missing pages it distorted the pages. On version 4 and it looks right now. Updated 12:12 CST 27 September 16.

Awesome!  Thanks.. I remember seeing these manuals in our USAF SP arms room in the late 70s.  We had a hodgepodge of weapons, including a green stocked 601 (that I fired once on a range day!).  We had some black stock 602s (I assume) some 604s, and an assortment of Franken Carbines.  Had a few GAU-5/A/As, and my GAU-5/P which had a 14.5" carbine barrel on a 601/602 lower.

I'm surprised the mags aren't waffles.

I think this AF manual dates to maybe 1963 or 64 as they state in the manual they were developing belts and accessories for said m16 rifle. We had many m16 602 and 604 model  rifles at Lackland AFB in  the early to mid 1970s.  I never saw a GAU as they were assigned to the Security Police squadrons....

Lackland AFB still has one of the original purchased low serial number 601 rifles that s a DWAT now?  How could they do that to such a piece of history!

Do you have the original manual to scan? Just to give you a heads up.    Page 2-4 and 2-6 are missing.  There is also an extra page 3-1.  Do you have the missing pages?

Thanks

BROvet04--

Great Manual and many thanks for your efforts.  I have several manuals in pdf format that you may want. For example - POMM 9-1005-249-14 for the XM177E2 SMG Jul 1967.  Please send me your email address so I can send to you.

AWESOME manual, thanks.

About 5 years ago I came across an Air Force "M4" and it had an early "AR-15" lower with a 4 digit serial number...so cool.  Was really surprised to see that lower still in service.

I'm fortunate to have an original AF manual that's in nice shape, looks like this would be the first US military manual for the 601 not counting what was provided earlier by Colt. Also helps with the 20rd mag time frame, the waffle and the slab side. More info/photos needs to be filled in for the years of 1961-1962.
