From request, I am going to start the Retro Forum NFA Thread. Anything goes here if it falls into NFA, MGs , colt moderators, Suppressor replicas, DD, etc. I will kick things off with My Colt Commando, and Gau. Will get pictures of my XM177E2. All are on form 4 of course!

What's up with the leg on the auto sear springs? They're supposed to go in front of the selector, in the little groove...

Cool stuff, by the way! I had no idea there were any transferable former USAF GAU's. Registered during the 1968 Amnesty, I would assume?

Edit: Whoops, I just noticed your other thread (Latest Acquisitions), sorry for the non-photographic thread clutter...

Transitional model AR10

Made in Holland 1959 and imported the same year along with the Aberdeen Proving Ground test rifles.
Has hand carved walnut HGs because the Dutch had not yet perfected their composite molding technique.
Small lugged bolt and the same trigger group as the earlier Sudanese contract AR10s.
This particular rifle has an odd (Sudanese) style  bayonet lug.

One of the best variants I think and has become a personal favorite, all of the coolest features on it especially the wood. No lame Port charging or FSB, but the four piece HGs and Sudan pattern upper, FSB, grip, the late style selector, BHO and buttstock. Does this one have a fluted barrel? Thanks for posting!

I would say "look closely" but the photo resolution tends to hide some important details. The following features distinguish this Transitional from other variants::
The upper looks Sudanese but has a large diameter pivot pin like a Portuguese AR10.
The FSB looks Sudanese but is from a different casting that has a more rounded contour above the barrel.
The bold stop (BHO) looks Portuguese but lacks the pin hole and is fixed to the lower in the same manner as the Sudanese bolt stop.
This Transitional has a Sudanese style buttstock but with a brown Portuguese style buttpad.  Some Transitionals had Porto stocks.
Note the front sling holder is unique with a rounded opening.  The rear is similar and hinges but the photo does not show it.
This one has an unfluted barrel with a Portuguese profile.  I have heard that some were fluted.
The charging handle is reinforced as compared to a Sudanese charging handle.  The Guatemalan AR10s also had a reinforced CH.
The handguard retaining ring is steel on some Transitional AR10s.
The walnut handguards are signed (inside) by the A.I. employee who carved them.

Brennon, where in GA are you. I am on a hunting lease in Stewart county, and I'm always hearing full auto fire off in the distance, and it's not from Ft Benning though I do hear their 50 cals thumping far off from time to time.

M3A1 Grease gun, used by many of SOF solider in Vietnam as well as many tankers and GIs in Korea on to Desert Storm.

And suppressed for those missions that require enemies to be quietly dispatched.
