howdy retroheads! id say hello from ohio or manila but truth be told im always traveling and rarely sit still anymore. retro is my passion recent years. my focus for 25 years was mainly enemy foreign weapons but in the last couple years have been taking pics of worn or in service weapons of Philippines and cloning them stateside. the end result shooting them til they catch fire of course. ill be posting tons of pics if you guys like. soon as I figure out how pics work here on this site. if theres a pics tutorial here I need to find it next it seems.
for now im rereading the rules and surfing some more. ive been reading here for a few years and have some friends here but never could login with my yahoomail. if there are any ideas on stuff I should look at or new member advice please let me know. congrats on the good hard knowledge amassed here. ive noticed some folks mention as though retro is a craze that will blow over and is a temporary fad. im gonna go with my instinct retro is certainly here to stay. if you guys know how to quickly or easily post pics here ive got tons of pics at the ready waiting on sd cards. all vintage stuff I took pics of overseas and current a1 clones and whatnot. cheers! |

Welcome and +1 on photo bucket. Drag n drop easy.
Where in OHIO are you? |

Welcome to the forum. On pics as stated most hosting agent will be fine. There may be a post minimum before site allows photo posting. Have read this but never personally had a problem. If so meet the minimum requirement for posts.
For pics most would love to see some authentic Philippine Elisco marked M-16's , especially barrel markings and the smaller details possibly even mag floor plate stamps if possible and anything else you would care to share. |

Retro is a lot of fun and the worn BTDT is IMHO the best way to go. Welcome to the board and YES PICS!!

Welcome to the retro madness! Also welcome to the most friendly, helpful, and generous gun forum around. Retro-heads ROCK!

here's a recent pic I took in Pangasinan in the rice patties south of Baguio North of Manila.

That was not easy hosting that first test pic but it showed up in link form. Is there a way for it to not to show up in link form as in just a regular pic?

View Quote maybe thats why my first test pic is in link form then? hmm. on the elisco and floorplates it gets way groovy beyond that. one thing ive noticed is there is next to nothing on info and good hard data online on Philippines variations so ill be expanding in that area every chance I get. that's one way I can give back and be more accepted in this forum I think. in trade for good hard retro knowledge of course. ive noticed some folks here seem to have supporting data to back up claims of h and r and gm mfr dates and contracts. stuff like that. ive really got to tap into that kind of knowledge and ask some questions. |

I thought they both used the "+" mark on their plastic? View Quote well it does get confusing the more you research it the more folks you talk to. one thing ive noticed is on stocks folks say colt didn't put numbers on em and gm used the letter number ones and so on. however ive seen em with c1,c2, c3, c4 in small letters then another variation just a capital letter E and a dot or 2 dots then some with 3 dots and 4 dots o single dot no big letter E. then theres the backwards mold letters B8 or A6 then you have your smaller numbers next to plus sign stocks. and that's just d type stocks. im trying to understand what all that means of course. the grips is another story. on the gm hr flared bottom type grips there are some with a big number 1,2 or 3 inside a faint mold circle. then theres the plus sign version which always has a small number 1,2,3 or 4 next to it and often a large letter at top of grip inside mount area. the odd ones ive noticed a lot of lately here stateside have zero marking inside or out anywhere on them. my 2 questions for the grips are... who made the plus sign grips and who made the non plus sign 1,2 or 3 marked grips? h and r or gm or both or neither? 2. also who made the totally unmarked version? is it a heavier duty colt oddball that h and r and gm copied and colt declined to mfr due to cost or some other contractor, if so who? the stocks are pretty involved maybe. theres another grip I keep seeing that's narrow unmarked might be an early colt im guessing? Ive seen a green painted version of it that has some red bakelite showing thru so my first hunch is the narrow black ones are a second gen transitional? |

The green painted grip is actually a brown "bakelite" material under the paint commonly referred to as a "601" grip. Found on Colt Model 601's. More info on them can be found at Retro Black Rifle website and of course in Ekie's Info threads at the top of this forum. The black version is thought to be the 2nd or 3rd gen grip, depending how you look at it, as seen on the 602. |

I gotta be up front im not from the texting generation I picked sweetcorn growing up 24/7 so im damn near amish compared to some of you guys. so far were off and running with pics but its a slower start than expected. all ive been able to gather so far is theres no quick way to post like on ak forum. other sites you can post 5 pics at a time and its super quick. this site so far posting pics is just absolutely slow as hell. me and wifey are still working on that to get a good system down. is there any advice on quicker pics posting ideas? weve got enough pics to post til the cows come home. ive had this site in mind to share em for a long time now. ill share some pics of my shooter rifle builds as well. they usually have a neat twist to em. |

Hello Commbloc- Surprised it took you so long to get over here. Great Retro resource with semi-regular detours into static.
Buy a photo host subscription. I have used Fototime.com for over 10 years, for example. You upload to their site via your PC or smart phone and it supplies a link you can paste into any forum. Service never goes down and there are no ads. For someone in the gun parts business who's been around a s long as you have, you really need to do this. |

It's my understanding that the skinny black grip was used on the 602 and likely the very early 604's. I don't know if it was found on early XM16E1's or not. The time period from 1963 to 1965 is what's known as the transitional era. There were many short lived experimental projects and transitional parts being tried out as the U.S. was ramping up for Vietnam. Some other more knowledgeable members may know a definitive answer, but that era is kinda gray, with little definitive answers or dates. Many parts carried over and were not updated for years. The fatter grip profile likely started in the 65 time frame. You will here the tag "ish" used a lot around here as in 1965 'ish. |

Here's some pics I took of SWAT cop in Manila when my wife asked him for directions. All cops were deployed on the streets that day and my buddy called me to tell me that there was a military coup but there was nothing about it on tv or radio. Looks like a neat sling attachment on his A1.

Here's what they did to USGI jeeps after we left plenty there behind. All were turned into public transportation and many sport pictures of retro A1's and fighting cocks.

I need help with that. can I just remove all anodizing somehow from my black lower and grey upper and use that cold blue like anodizing stuff in a touch up bottle or how should I tackle that one ya think? id imagine it would be faded grey not blue then. how does one get that neat faded blue patina to take? |

all of the rifles in this rack were captured by the us backed pnp or afp. captured in warzone of muslim Mindanao. all had homemade parts on them or broken or missing parts. some of the garands had mock up m14 kits built onto them from chicken scratch and were full auto. the fals some had home or hut built jungle stocks. the bent metal homemade sling mount in pics became my inspiration to copy as soon as I got home. heres a couple m16a1 clones im piecing together all colt parts starting with the stripped barrel and going from there.
take a look and tell me what you guys think. the cmp b or c mp chrome bore barrels I ran into had bulges at the muzzle crown inside bore so I refurbed em in my lathe and the first one im testing now. the group is extremely tight during test fire so im amazed and moving forward at getting these built into muslim pirate guns and enemy weapons to represent all factions of waring clan weapons in philippines. ive got a cpp npa new peoples army a1 build started too now. the forarms started that build. got a sling that started another. these things multiply quick. I hadn't planned on doing more than 2 at first but I have too much fun building and shooting these now. href=http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa363/eidolehm_88/IMG_4160.jpg" /> href=http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa363/eidolehm_88/IMG_4192.jpg" /> |

Those 2 beat up M14s are cool as hell looking. I have Civil War rifles that look nicer than that!

Is there any way to tell if the c mp b barrels ever had a bevel ground flashing fsb like this or did only c mp c and earlier barrels have them? all my guns are chrome lined so I can peen out the b as if it were a c that got dinged I guess. I just had this early bevel cut fsb laying around and no later a1 types to use and needed to get the c mp b chromed barrel a good shooting test fire. I like the way it turned out now though so I gotta find out that little snippet.
