Looks to be arsenal refinished and someone drilled out the pivot pin for a large pin lower.

604? Round or square forge? Good deal for  $40?

Colt 604 square forge. Nice piece. I'd give $40 for it for sure.

might have to get inventive on that front lug though.

Good information, thanks Mauser.

And yeah, that front lug worries me. I hope one of those bushings for large pin uppers will fix it.

Figured it was worth a gamble at that price.

Should be able to build something out of that.  I would have snatched it up for $40.

I'm guessing someone drilled it to use it on an sp1 lower or really any colt lower.

maybe you can slug it and re drill

You could also epoxy an offset bushing in there with liquid steel if the tolerances are loose on the bushing, or use crazy glue gel if tighter.  I have used several Sp1 uppers, and successfully used both methods.

Where should I order the bushing?

I'm going to try and get that to work with jb weld or something similar.
We'll have to see how it goes, crossing my fingers all goes well!

EDOT:
I'm hoping all goes well and I don't need to have the hole plugged and redrilled, but I'm sure someone on the forum here could help me out if it comes to that.

Looks like a Colt SP1 upper.

This is what I'm going to have done.
Hopefully we can make it into a good, usable upper.

Definitely refinished in cast iron black.

Any info on that type of finish?

I thought it looked like some of the Arsenal refinished uppers that have been posted online.

A consult with the "magician" John Thomas might be worth your time

Hambone, if you want to box it up and ship it to me I will plug it, and drill/ream it for you.......as a PIF offer. Are you familiar with the retro PIF thread?
May be able to leave the left side counterbored, as it was originally.

That's an awesome offer man, thank you. That's what makes the retro forum so good.

I've already sent the upper to braceman for him to fix, else I would for sure take you up on that offer!

What are your plans for the upper? Have a build planned? Model?

I don't really have a plan for it yet.

I might do a 605 or a 604, or just keep it for trade bait.

Any suggestions?

604 is always a good choice. Or an xm177. That's probably my favorite carbine.
