Anyone ever do this?
I have a few new (virgin) Colt 9mm uppers, and could use a couple of non-forward assist / 604 uppers.
I believe all that's necessary is to cut the gas tube hole.

Ideas?

May also need to mill the cam pin recess inside the upper to use it with a locking bolt system.

Wow. I've been hunting for two of those for quite awhile.
Do you know a source that you would share?
Or sell any extras?

Although unnecessary, the cam pin recess is milled on the 9mm uppers.
It looks like all machining operations were completed except the gas tube hole.

I'd hate to do it, but they'd make nice non-forward assist uppers...

Sell them to someone that needs them. Then buy what you need.

The market on true 9mm retro uppers are getting smaller.

It took me about 6-8 months to track one down at a descent price.

This please!

I too have been on the look out for stripped Coly 9mm uppers for years, and they pretty much disappeared last year. I still need two more. You can find complete 635 style uppers, but people want $1k for those.

Please sell and buy what you need.

Ya I agree, trade one for a 604 or sell one and buy a 604. No need to cut an uncommon upper when there are uppers out there that already fit your needs.

+1

I've researched extensively and love Colt SMGs, sell those uppers! Still looking for a Colt 10.5 inch 9mm barrel that doesn't cost 500 dollars. If the price is right, I'll take one of those SMG uppers.
