I found my old arms room card for my issued M16A2, and I have a spare 80% laying around.

I'd have posted on the A2 side, but I remember this sort of engraving is more of a retro thing.

I just found some of my old score books with my serial number on them...have a local guy that's going to do same thing for me.

Email sent to Braceman, because his IM box is full.

I was just thinking, if you use an already existing M16 serial #, if a LEO was to run/check that number, would it come back as US property? IMO it might be hard talking your way out of that. Maybe add or change one number to avoid a possible fiasco.

Wouldn't changing or adding a number result in the same likelihood of matching an old number?  What's the odds of any given A1 still being in existence? I don't know. Wouldn't ANY  original M16 or M16 A1 have the third happy pin, while his semiautomatic does not? And realistically, what's the odds of his rifle ever being scrutinized by a LEO.

Invent a SN in a format that you know was not used...

Stoner you're probably right but, adding a number or two would most likely put it out of realistic production range, #2 The OP mentioned that this was for an A2 not A1, which plenty are still in service. #3 The odds of an LEO even knowing what and where a sear pin is, slim to none. #4 Odds of getting checked, my guns have been checked a couple of times by police and game wardens.

I'm doing one of my A2s I have the number for off my data book...

I find it highly unlikely it would have been stolen and placed in the database...

I was also thinking of having "Not an actual Colt" put someplace subtle like inside the trigger guard.

What registry are they going to run it against that would show it as US Property?  NCIC will only show guns that have been reported as stolen.  The only other way they can run it is to have ATF do a trace, which isn't going to happen unless the gun was involved in a crime.

I did overlook the fact that he said it was an A2. That would make it a no go for me, as all my 80 percenters are NFA items. Other than that, some of you must travel in some shady areas.

I'm in touch with Braceman.

I'm a professional drafter (in hiatus) so doing drawings is easy for me.

I am half wondering if I should get cute and use the image from my avatar for the Colt logo and put my fake "Laconic Arms"  instead of Colt Patent...

Brace has indicated that "REPLICA" in the triggerguard is easy.

While I'm never going to sell it, I'd hate for my estate to pass it off as a genuine Colt.

No mistaking this for a genuine issue lower, I think!
